45-70 BC & pistol powders

I have two quick questions, 1st.  I have the 45-70 BC 32" barrel with a S/N  HX 200456. What is the "HX" and was it made in 2004?    2nd.   I was on gmdr.com and came across using pistol powders in the 45-70 case.   Not just Unique, but it had a load of 13gr of 7ooX at 1113fps.  (also, 231, AA5  etc.) Has anyone used pistol powders in this load?

Ive used unique and 2400 both with good results, the 2400 works really well. Both loads seem to prefer soft cast boolits if your shooting lead.  Shot an elk with it this year and it passed right through.

I primarily use Unique and only for Round ball loads.  These can be very entertaining and used for small game dispatching etc.  I carry a couple during deer season in case of the occasional pesky squirrel.    Mostly have fun with them for ground hog shooting.  On shorter barrel guns, you can get down to like 6 gr. Unique, but on my 32" barreled BC, I find that 10 gr. is the minimum you can use to get consistent performance at 50+ yards.  Be careful to make sure each ball exits the barrel when developing loads.  I blow the smoke out of the chamber each shot and make sure I see sky through the barrel.

I'd have to say that with over 80,000 rounds of testing, the GMDR low velocity cast bullet data is good to go! 

HX = 2007 if my memory serves me well(which it doesn't always!! ), the build year code list is in the FAQs to confirm it tho.

I have one 45-70 that it sighted in with Lee 405 grain HBs over either 700x or Unique.  These two Loads are equalivant velocity, right at 1,000 fps or upper subsonic.  They are a hoot to shoot, I had a friend's 14 year old launching them the other day at the range, and he was happy! 
 
A word of caution using fast burning powders in large capacity cases, you have to have a system in place to prevent a double or triple charge, just like when you use these powders in many of the pistol calibers.

all our 45/70's use imr-4227 with 300gr sjhp and 405gr jsp remington bullets.
no need for any other loads, because what we use is proven with results for tha freezer.
plus this powder is used in alotta handi's and uther brand shooters we have.
