Why are Wal Mart employees so rude?
« on: April 14, 2012, 11:11:07 AM »
I just got my oil changed at the local China Mart. At the completion of the service I checked the oil. I ALWAYS check the oil at the completion of an oil change. I even check the oil after I change it myself. Apparently the guy who changed it took offense and called out  "I cant believe he is checking the oil I just F***ing changed it myself!" Well he wont have to worry about being offended by me anymore. He nor any of his cohorts will be doing any more work on my car.

Cheers, Wal Mart jerks!

After working for those low lifes for 8 years I can honestly say that MOST of the employes reflect their mgt. Friendly folks, decent mgt. I quit wm oil changes after another employee had his changed and left, got less than a mile before the engine locked up and overheated. They forgot to replace the oil plug. I always chked my oil there too, it was usually 1/2 qt low. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

I will have to agree with powderman and his crappy management equals crappy employees analogy. I called and talked to the store manager and what a shocker she blew me off. This wal mart I am griping about seems to be exceptionally rude as a whole.

Because they can, plain and simple.  The fact you did not light him up with a trip to the store manager only emboldens the stupid among them.

I can understand it being their store to do with what they want. I can understand taking your business elsewhere.

Seriously though you should have said something. Writing a letter will NO DOUBT get someone's attn. . Send one to the store and cc. one to the area manager for the best fire effect.

My closest WM is friendly enough.  From experience though, courtesy and respect are usually a reflection on management.
I would report the jerk who criticized you for checking your oil.  Perhaps that explains why he isn't working for more pay at a local auto dealer..

I called their corporate hotline. They took me a little more seriously than the store manager did. If I had my way I woul quit shopping at that hell hole all together.

My mom is a department manager at wally world and she said their unofficial policy is to treat employees badly so they will quit because it is cheaper for them to constantly retrain someone new than to have to pay benefits to anyone who stays longer than six months.  The one I worked for treated the employees horribly.  I hated it but I still always treated customers with respect.

QUASNE. She's telling the truth. THey want a continous turnover to keep folks at the starting rate. Experience and hard work mean nothing to corporate. They have no regard for employees or customers, until a customer complains. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Take a look at the People of WalMart http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=greentree_ff1&va=people+of+walmart .  Not saying everyone that shops there is this way.  I have shopped there, never to get my picture taken for the Internet, but I think you'd be unfriendly too after working there just a little while.

It may be that the mechanic in question was rude because his job environment sucks.  It's equally possible that he's just a jerk.

When I see someone checking my work, I see it as an oportunity for someone to see for themselves that I know what I'm doing.  Everybody makes mistakes, so why shouldn't someone look to see if I made one.  If I did a good job, they will see that too.

Also, if your engine blew up after you left the shop, he knows that you know that the oil had been changed.  I would imagine WalMart is exactly the sort of place that unscrupulous people would get an oil change, then come back and acuse them of not doing the work or doing it badly causing some damage.  A set up for a predatory law suit.  When the guy saw you check his work, he knows that you (and he) know that the job is done.  End of story....untill he ran his mouth.

It cracks me up that they drug test. You would need to be intoxicated on something to work there! I made the mistake once of having my car serviced at a Wal-Mart, never again. Only two quarts of oil put in, power steering pump was puking fluid because it was filled to the rim and my tire pressures varied from 15 to 50 pounds.

The ones around here are mostly decent prople with a crappy job and harsh management. Their attitudes reflect the reality. There have been a few really excellent people at this one over the years, including one young recently immigrated Russian lady that was just superb. She was there for a couple of years and always was very professional and courteous. Surely she moved on to a better job, and I wish her the best. Maybe Walmart gave her that entry level opportunity that she needed to get started. That's what walmart does best for the job market.

Others are like drones that seem to be barely human, and often bitter and gloomy. I would not want to work at a Walmart because that seems more to be the norm.

My first job was at McDonalds. I hated that job and it was so bad I was permanently driven to have better work, but I am still grateful for that opportunity because I learned a lot and it was good for me.

It was rude and out of line for anyone to complain that you checked your oil and also use profanity.

We use the Walmart here a lot and find the employees well behaved and normal.  The greeter is an old timer who says something pleasant.

Also they carry guns and ammo and other similar stores don't.  It's interesting to see what cartridges they carry to see if they are available.

I mentioned the Snap Safe to the guy at Walmart who works in the gun section and he had never heard of it either.  He got interested and searched his computer and found that Walmart carries them!

Strange thing is that I used to go to Walmart regularly, but seldom do anymore. Other stores are doing some of what Walmart does and it's just more convenient for me, even though I pass right by a Walmart on the way to work.

We had 2 decent store mgrs while I was there in 8 yrs. One actually asked me to organize a prayer team for the store employees and their families, which of course tickled me to death. We met every Tues for over a yr, took maybe 10 - 15 min to read our prayer list and have prayer. Others made every effort to drive employees away, new employees mean starting wages, which means lower budget, which means brownie points.  POWDERMAN.  :o :o

My wife is addicted to wal mart. I have mentioned several times that we should speak about this local store with our pocket books but she still insists on grocery shopping there. Me? I refuse to go in there when I am alone and need something. I would rather go to a smaller store and pay a little more for less hassle and more courteous service

Our economy here in Fairbanks has finally gone into the tank.  With that so many places are closing, our shopping options are getting rather limited.  Even Burger King and Chili's have closed up shop in Fairbanks.  Applebies, Arbies, and OutBack all cancelled plans to build stores in town.

We had Carrs grocery stores all over town, a few Safeways.  No one liked Safeway stores.  Then Fred Myers built a new store and decided to sell groceries.  Freddy's did not carry a good selection, and they were across the street from Safeway, so few people shopped there.   Then Safeway bought up Carrs, and closed up most of the Carrs Locations in town.  Those buildings are still sitting vacant.  Once they had the monopoly more or less on groceries, Safeway quite carrying a lot of the major brand names and only carried Safeway Brand, or they were always running out of the major brands and only had Safeway brand on the shelf.  Then Wal-Mart came to town.  One year after Wal-Mart opened they remodeled and brought in groceries.  Great service and really a good selection of groceries and produce.  Their employees are courtious and friendly.  The only store in Fairbanks where you can find a clerk out on the floor, that can help you find something, or answer questions.  The smaller stores in town are closing now and Wal-Mart is getting more and more business.

The one thing about Wal-Mart is that you can get almost anything you need at one store.  Tires, Guns and Ammo, Books, Electronics, and Groceries.  clothes I go to Sportsman's Warehouse, they carry "Tall" sizes.

Looks like there are Walmarts... and then there are Walmarts.

The rude and foul mouthed comment really got under my skin. My action of checking the oil wasnt meant to offend anyone. I check the oil right after each and every change. Even when I change it myself the first thing I do after pouring that last quart is yank the dipstick out and check the level. The car is mine I will check the oil whenever I want. The mouthing off was really uncalled for. How do you know when your oil is topped off? Simple-you check it!

You need to check it after it's been run.  The new filter is full of air.  I never check mine.  I'm not even sure where the dipstick is.

If they do the oil change properly, they will run the engine for a moment (which purges the air from the filter), check the oil pan drain plug for tightness and leaks, shut the engine off and then check the oil level.  The better shops I've used will then show you the dip stick so you can confirm the oil level is correct.  Sure, these things take a few extra seconds, but things like that set the better shops apart from the rest.  And honestly, I've not seen more than a couple of dollars difference for an oil change between the better shops and the others, so I vote with my wallet and use the better shops.

Oh, and I check my oil regularly between changes - if you don't, you are inviting problems.  It is one of the easiest things you can do that can warn you about a problem beginning.  I know exactly how much oil my cars use between changes, and what color the oil should have (and even the smell), and if that changes, I know something is up and can have my mechanic take a look.
