I was disappointed to hear Mr Cosby's comments, but he's someone of stature, otherwise we'd have not heard it. Perhaps you could write Mr Cosby - who has an earned doctorate?  - and suggest some reading with which he can educate hisself.

No joke. Bill Cosby and I both have some things in common. We both dropped out of high school, we both went into the navy, we both later graduated from college and went to graduate school. He went further than I did (I never got a doctorate) and starred in more movies.

Clearly it can not be about the "great society" that has done nothing but create poor people.  We have government agencies that their budgets, their pay, their advancement is all based on how many poor people we have.  Want ot advance in the agency, get more poor people to take care of the more their budget increaes the more people are hired.
It is clearly the hunk of machined steel that loads its self and jumps in the hands of these kids and aims it's self and shoots randomly at anyone moving.

There is nothing wrong with the pursuit of knowledge. Although religious zealots of all demonations and cultures may say otherwise. But the manner in which one uses their knowledge is what distinguishes an educated individual from a wise individual.
 
The real key is in not allowing our emmotions (an unstable and volatile element at best) to override our logic. A most difficult thing in regards to ones children or of the loss of ones.

It seems that there is no BALANCE in human nature. Its one extreme or the other. There are "educated" that haven't a clue and they seem to be the most vocal and then there are "educated" who are able to "SEE" the bigger picture but for some reason are too conservative and silent, complacent and ineffective.

I've liked Cosby's artistic abilities for a long time dating back to his old 78 rpm comedy sequences.  I admire his sense of intellect and respect his PhD, even though it is basically a treatise on his shows.  I though he was hitting the target several years ago in those public speeches in which he urged blacks to take more responsibility for their futures, be a father rather than a sperm donor, and get an education...but the black community basically tuned him out.
 
Like anyone else, he is entitled to his opinion on issues...his opinion is worth exactly as much as mine is...unfortunately, because he is rich and famous and looks to be condemning guns, he will be widely quoted and become an instant "expert".  The race-hustlers will continue to decry the racial aspects of the shooting, the hoplophobic loonies will renew their crusade, and it will become a rallying crry that ends in"...Vote For Obama."

Ok so I pose this question  - 

Rather than each county ordering their own # 2 pencils within the state from various #2 pencil company suppliers,
If a state gathered each counties # 2 pencil classroom requirements for the whole year , then leveraged volume purchase power with whichever # 2 pencil company provided the best competitive bid to provide pencils for all the states schools  -  would some call that communism? socialism? or just being fiscally prudent?
