Granny ‘Drug Kingpin’ Busted in Oklahoma   abc 120415 gma granny2 jt 120415 wblog Granny Drug Kingpin Busted in Oklahoma ABC News ABC News’ Alex Perez reports:
Silver haired and sweet faced, Darlene Mayes looks like many grannies but according to police, she is one of Oklahoma’s biggest drug kingpins.
Her operation went up in smoke this week, when police entered her home and found 4 pounds of pot and $276,000 cash.
Police found $15,000 bundles of cash stashed away in the home.
Mayes initially told police the money was part of her retirement fund.
Police also say she was packing a semiautomatic pistol and a revolver.
Investigators say her alleged pot-dealing network spanned four states, from Tulsa, Okla., to Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri.
Police believe she supplied up to 40 percent of the marijuana in that area.
As the mastermind, police believe she had a network of dealers, including her son Jerry who was also arrested.
Law enforcement expert Brad Garrett says harmless looking seniors can sometimes be the most efficient drug dealers.
“It doesn’t surprise me that someone this age would be actively involved in marijuana distribution because there’s just too much money to be made. If they keep a low profile, they don’t talk to many people, and they don’t get greedy, they can go on for years.”
Mayes is not the first grandmother accused of ditching retirement for a second career in drug dealing.
In the United Kingdom, 68-year-old Patricia Tabram—dubbed the cannabis grandma—was charged with intent to supply after authorities say they found a marijuana farm in her home.
In Tennessee, an elderly couple was busted for selling prescription drugs.
But the granddaddy of all drug dealers may be  Francis Cook, 83, also known as Britain’s oldest drug dealer.

Now she does not have to worry about retirement.  No worry about the electric bill, gas bill, water bill, no worry about the toilet backing up, and no worry about taxes.
She is set for life.

Well I have to take exception to the label "drug kingpin" if she was only distributing marijauna, but it is kinda funny that I just found that Mary Ann from "Gilligan's Island" was arrested for pot.

A university security guard was telling me that marijuana is up to as much as $500 per ounce now. I couldn't believe it. That used to be the rocket fuel of the hippie movement, and was relatively inexpensive. I checked some online and sure enough it is that expensive, ranging from about $350 to $400 typically. I think that explains the popularity of meth and similar things.

I figured pot would be cheap, because it can be grown anywhere.  I think most is laced now with crack cocane.  Plain pot, I guess is not enough.  Meth is far, far worse than pot, and once hooked, one cannot get over it.  Pot can be given up, but might have addictivness like cigarettes.

The way he explained it to me is that the new breeds have a lot more of the active drug in it, and they were bred for that, kind of like the way the breed wheat for the biggest kernels.

I deer hunted over in Eastern KY one year and a sweet ol lady told us we could hunt and camp. Cars came in and out all night, she was just 3/4 mile from us on a dead end road. We found out that the sweet lil ol lady was the local moonshiner. We stopped at a springhouse in a field for a sip of water and there were a bunch of what we assumed to be jugs of shine in the cool water. We met some locals and we talked about the hunt. I told them that I was going up a ridge the next day, they said, don't go up there. I said but there must be deer there I heard shooting off and on all day. He said DON'T, thats where the still is, He said he knew of at least 3 bodies buried there. We stayed away from that ridge. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Some folks do get very desperate...supporting their enslaving habits.  We see that in the news everyday.

The only enslaving habit in MJ is the greed of the suppliers.
All the ruckus over 4 joints. I am speaking of Mary Ann in this little blog.
I agrees that she should have kept it at home and not driven--like booze.

Times are tough.  Plan on seeing more and more people you wouldn't expect turn out to be selling drugs.  Pot can be grown indoors, it is profitable and easy enough to do so you will see people seduced by the easy dollar.  This is the perverbial tip of a really, really big iceburg.

Yes indeed that is true.  The better varieties are several times more potent that the best stuff available even in the 80's!  In fact if your growing you will have better luck finding "clones" instead of seeds to plant.  Northern Lights and AK47 are just a couple such varieties in the PNW that are really common.

I almost suggested that such a person go into honest farming, but the administration in Washington is piling more and more crippling regulations onto honest farmers and other businesses !
