TTC Tokarev markings
« on: April 16, 2012, 03:01:38 PM »
Howdy,
My new Romanian Tokarev has "BP149 1953" stamped on the frame, and "BP149" on the slide. Is the 1953 part of the serial# or is it the manufacture date?

Thanks,
Bitterroot

Hey Bob:  that might be part of the serial number.  Usually the Toks, at least the Chinese Toks had the serial number stamped on both frame and slide.  I have seen a couple of TT-33s that, iirc were stamped only on the frame - those were Ruskie pistols though.  On occasion though you may find one with some lettering engraved on the frame which, depending on the interpretation may mean either 'save the last round for your dog, or for your mother-in-law' but those are hard to find (I think the dogs ran off with them for self defense....).  I once had a 7.65 mm Luger with a 6" bbl that was supposed to have been purchased for the Royal Siamese Guard and that had a Thai inscription on the grip that was interpreted as 'save the last bullet for yourself' but that had not been confirmed so I dunno.

Most likely the year of manufacture.  Mine is similarly stamped "AGxxx 1953." Sometimes the distributors screw up on the paperwork and include numbers that are not part of the serial#.  I got a P1 with the arsenal rework date included  ::) .

What got me wondering is that most multi-part guns will use the last three digits to match them to the same gun. 1953 looked like part of the serial #, but why wasn't the slide marked "953".
I won't try to figure out their process too hard. All I know is that it appears that this pistol is in NEW condition and the fit & finish rivals many of our current production handguns. I heartil;y recommend the Romanian Tok.

I like mine too except for the cheesy add-on safety.

the current shotgun news shows the romainan tok for $209.00. If you dont have a c & r  license then I imagine at the  gun
shop they might run about   $ 249.00 to $289.00 ? Does that sound about right ??

Yeah,
Figure $25 to ship and $15-25 for the transfer. That's about right. Be sure to buy a half dozen magazines.

Bitterroot - BP149 is the serial # and 1953 is the year of manufacture.
