Barrel swap Axis?
« on: April 17, 2012, 05:10:10 PM »
Will the barrels on the Stevens 200 interchange with the Axis?

Just wondering if a barrel swap to other standard barrel blanks would work on the Axis.

Haven't had one to look at that close yet.

Thanks, Blu

It`s just another Savage. I have both, and see no reason they would not swap. If you have never took the barrel and action out of an Axis your in for a surprise. There is no recoil lug on the barrel. It is molded into the stock and looks like a coin.  The frount of the action is milled out and the recoil lug fits in the milled out knotch behind the barrel nut. Looks funky to me, but my 22-250 Axis is very accurate.

So, yes they will thread on, but may not interface with the Axis stock due to the recoil lug difference (none on Axis barrel, lug on all other Savage barrels).  What caliber is your Axis and what caliber were you looking for?

There should be not trouble at all. The recoil lug fits into the frount of the action and behind the barrel nut. Changeing the barrel will have no effect on the way the action fits into the stock, unless it`s to large to fit into the barrel channel in the stock.
