The ability to read house numbers is not on the police entrance exam.

That badged thug should be fired plain and simple. That yelping dog in the audio sounded very threatening! ::)   I love how his "contingency plan" took all of 1.5 seconds to fail so he could resort to gun play. He must be quick on the draw or...he already had the gun out as soon as he was out of the camera's view.

Scoundrels. For some types, it's fun to wave guns, give orders, and act with impunity in ways that would get me sent straight to jail, or shot.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

If you will check out the entire article, you will find the dispatcher gave out the wrong house number.
For all the other comments, I would invite any of you to take on the role of Police Officer in a large city and see if it doesn't make you a little more edgy. I'm not saying this guy was right or wrong. I can't make that call with no more information than what is presented in a possibly biased article and ten seconds of video.
Do some research and see how many officers were ambushed in the past several years going to calls that they have very limited information on, domestic calls being some of the worst ones.
Do you really think this officer woke up that morning thinking "I hope I can go out and kill someones dog today". More likely, if he is like most, he probably thought to himself "I hope I can make it home today".
All in all, if you can do the job better, go for it !!!!!!!!!!
No need to respond, I'm off my soap box and not sure if I will return or not.

shooting a barking dog is stupid.  it's a fact that if you enter someones house with an aggressive attitude, the dog will respond in kind.  if you act calm and self assured, the dog will respond in kind.  most dogs are smarter than us.  the cop was trigger-happy.

edited to add.  blue heelers are exceptionally smart.

Quick show of hands-how many of my fellow dog owners can quiet their startled and barking dog in under 3 seconds?

exactly.  plus an aggressive cop, a terrified home owner with his hands in the air.
if a man wants to be a cop, then he needs to know how to respond to a situation without slinging lead.  there's lots of crime and domestic violence here, but at a council meeting one night, a cop told me he has never pulled his gun except at the firing range.
if the cop ASSUMES that a domestic squabble will be violent, he needs to get back-up.
yes, sometimes a cop is sniped at, but he's supposed to know the dangers when he fills out the job application.  the badge is NOT a license to kill.

Didn't watch the video.

But I do know that domestics are the single most dangerous thing that LEOs respond too. You call an Officer to a domestic, you can expect him to be on high alert and he may be very quick to react to situations.....not the best for those looking for the perfect outcome. :(

Domestic calls are the most dangerous calls for law officers to respond to.

Police officers today do face a lot of stress on the job. They do in fact have to put up with what most folks are not willing to put up with. THAT"S WHY THOSE WHO HIRE THESE MEN AND WOMEN NEED TO DO SO ONLY AFTER TESTING THEM TO SEE WHAT DRIVES THEM and insure accidents like the pooch shooting don't happen. As bad as this one incident is it could be the evidence of poor hireing pratices and poor training from this dept. Not to mention poor tatics .How many more are on the job waiting to screw up ?
There are many good officers with stable egos and good training that prove it can be done correctly.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I just don't want to impose on everyone else.  That's why I don't have a dog.  The fact that my wife can't stand dogs has some effect on it too.  Dogs on both sides of us.  They bark constantly.
