10/22 not firing
« on: January 28, 2004, 04:26:14 PM »
i have a ss 10/22 aprox.400 rounds shot through it. it shoots cci mini mags every time i pull the trigger. but when i put the cheaper winchester, remington,or federal bullets in it about every 3rd to 5th round wont shoot. it has done this since i bought it new. my speedmaster will shoot all the bullets even if you mix them up. is there anything i can do to fix this or just shoot the cci's?

feeding problem

I had a few rifles years ago that wouldn't  feed right. I figured it had to do with the flat barrel end and the bullet going in at an angle. I pulled the barrel and with dremel tool made a small ramp on the bottom side of chamber. Seemed to work so all the ones after got ramped.

Other posibility could be a bad recoil sping, might try a new one.

Also make sure of the size of the chamber. I had a 10/22 T. Would do the same thing. Found out that the barrel was a match barrel - which made the chamber hole smaller. After hand pushing some cheap rounds into the chamber - I found they would not all go into it. Thus causing the round not to fire......

Are you saying it jams feeding or the round chambers and will not fire? Sounds like the latter to me. If so look at the firing pin indent on the rim and see if it looks "normal". Could be the CCI has a softer primer, or the Ruger has a lighter fireing pin spring. Dirty chamber maybe? CCI makes my favorite rimfire ammo. And the budget milk cartons or bulk ammo are my last pick. Usually get bent rounds and whatnot.

P.S.  Southern Utah, Marlin 39 Cent is Awesome, Thanks.
