Alright Swampy!
Fess up! Here recently i noticed a few purchases made by you on some neat "artillery"! So you must have stumbled into a " mother lode" somewhere, right?
You are probably 45-70 " poor" with that Ruger#1.
How many 45-70`s do you have now?

And also as usual, neat photographs! Those old "Western" ammo boxes really add to the picture.

I only have 4 .45-70s right now.  It's my favorite cartridge.

Are those the Ruger low rings? Looks good.

I believe so.  That's what the package says but they were second hand and free.

Probably not but it's different and sexy.  The .45-70 Handis are remarkably accurate.

I shot the .45-70 #1 a little this morning.  It seems to be grouping nicely with the 340 grain Lee bullets and the Lyman 457124 bullets.  The 340 grain Lee that I recovered showed no expansion in a red clay bank.  I was shooting off some shooting sticks that I cobbled together yesterday.  Mostly just tweaking the scope and watching it track.  Need a softer bullet for deer.  I'm going to cast some 330 grain Gould Hollow Points out of soft lead.

I'm glad everyone likes Swampy's new rifle, But to my eye those Ruger laminated stocks sure are ugly....  :o Sorry but I just don't like them.

I'm glad for you though, since you do like them. But for me give me a nice piece of fancy walnut and I'm happy..

Regards,

I didn't like it much until I traded for it.  The extra weight and the lack of checkering makes it very comfortable.  Since they don't make stainless anymore the prices are climbing.  I wouldn't part with it.

I have to say I do not like laminated stocks for looks .................................................... but some how that colour stock with the Stainless seems to some how fit. If offered it I would not refuse let's put it that way  :P

Now Swampman please if possible show a photo or two of a recovered Could HP. It's an interesting design and one that Paul Mathews seemed to like.

We may not see eye to eye on a lot of things but those are GOOD photos.

Lyman 457124 over 30 grains of IMR-4198 shot pretty good I think. The Lyman 457122 over 33 grains of IMR-4198 shot better, but I ran out of ammo before I got a good zero on the scope. This group was shot without readjusting the scope. This is the zero for the Lyman 457122 so I could probabaly use either load to hunt with without adjusting the scope. Range is 100 yards. We liked the new range at Defuniak Springs, FL.
