Elite scope passed the bad weather test
« on: January 28, 2004, 04:54:22 PM »
I put an Elite scope on my old Springfield sporter because of the nasty weather conditions typically encountered here in western Oregon. This past season, I hunted in pouring rain during October and in falling snow during the November rut. I decided to try the scope without lens caps. Even in heavy rain or snow, the sight picture was always clear enough to pick up targets. Water beaded up with plenty of space between the tiny beads. November temperatures in the mountains were well below freezing. I deliberately tried to fog the scope by breathing heavily on the lens - not once but three or four times. The sight picture was still good enough to shoot and it cleared rapidly.
The Elites are probably not be as sharp and bright as more expensive scopes, but in my experience, they are good foul weather gear.

Man...the weather was crappy and wet for most of my deer and Elk hunt.  I mostly hunted up near Mt. Defiance above Hood River.  I was so wet most of the time, when I got in my car, my wet clothes fogged up all the windows, but that rainguard did a great job.
....make it count
