I just got my Glock 29SF back from my smith who put a Rocket 3.5# connector in, added Ameriglo nite sights. I got my Lone Wolf standard drop in barrel and 21# recoil spring/guide rod from Wolff same time. Put it all together last night and got to use it today!
A friend of mine and my SIL were scheduled to shoot a hog each up in Corinne, Utah today. ( Utah has banned pig hunting as of May 8!) I went along and they each got their hogs, two nice 300# or so sows, both shot at close range ( 30-30 Improved and 9.3x62 rifles used) After we took pics ( picks coming later) I asked if I could test my handgun and loads on the dead hogs heads. They were happy to do so!
I had two loads, the DT 230 WFNGC and the Buffalo Bore 155 TAC-XP load. Used the DT 230 on the first hog, from behind the ear to right temple area, got complete penetration from about 3ft away ( typical range of a finishing shot for me) skull/brain/ fat/ thick skin! I was impressed.
Second hog, I used the DT 155 TAC-XP, same distance but from temple to temple. I found the bullet under the skin on the off side, complete penetration, shattered the skull inside, and it had a complete mushroom, classic look with all the petals rolled back! I was extremely pleased as I wanted to carry this round for a carry load. With the 21# recoil spring, recoil felt like a +P+ 9mm, very easy and pleasant to shoot! This from a handgun that weighs about the same as a Glock 23!
I don't "hunt" with a handgun, but use one for incidental shots, protection, etc. I am glad I went with this set up for my use. Even a FA '97 with 5.5" barrel in.45 colt felt like a brick compared to this one on my belt! I haven't chroned either of these loads, but will later on.
