email Sherri Calvin (Source: LMDC) LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Louisville woman was arrested for beating a student aid worker who would not give her daughter a financial aid check.
According to an arrest warrant, 39-year-old Sherri Calvin is charged with first degree assault after she attacked Shelley Beck, the executive director of the Empire Education Group. Information of the website of Empire Education Group states the company issues student financial aid to cosmetology students.
Students are required to attend at least 75 percent of their classes and maintain at least a low "C" grade point average to receive aid. Beck said Calvin's daughter did not meet those requirements and was disqualified from receiving financial aid from the group. According to information on the warrant, Calvin's daughter had been warned by the school several times to get her grades up and attend class.
The warrant states Calvin and her daughter came in to meet with Beck and another employee on April 12. Beck tried to explain the rules, but Calvin was demanding the check. When Beck said the meeting was over and stood up and left her office, Calvin came running after Beck and grabbed her by her shoulder, spinning her around.
According to Beck, Calvin used profanities and told her the meeting wasn't over. Beck said Calvin then began beating her "in the face with her fist repeatedly," according to the arrest warrant.
Beck said Calvin struck her at least 15 times. Beck says she tried to turn her head, but Calvin continued to strike. When Calvin stopped, Beck says the she and her daughter fled.
Beck was taken by EMS to University Hospital with injuries to her face and eye, along with bruises on her arms, shoulder, ear and knots on her head. According to the arrest warrant, Beck's eye was bloody and her vision was blurred. A doctor stated Beck may have some permanent visual impairment.
