Got Me stump. Mauser magazine floorplate woes
« on: April 21, 2012, 01:45:56 PM »
Parting together a 98 Brazilian Mauser. The Trigger guard will not accept the kismatched magazinew floorplate...?
It does not exactly match up with the rear where the plunger (floorplate release button maybe?). I get it on then it pops off. If I get the front lined up then the lip on the rear needs to slide back a tiny bit to drop into hole. I get it to seat but can see the plunger's top is not aligned with sight sole. Then a tap and it springs off.
The trigger guard is type with the sling hole is in trigger guard loop. Am I using wrong trigger guard? Or wrong base? srews to attach to action line up.

If I'm understanding you right, it sounds like the plunger is not seating all the way(?)

If that's the case, you can use a small rat-tail file to remove a little material at the front of the hole in the floor plate until the plunger drops all the way in.

OK, thanks, I will try that.
The rear floorplate hole the plunger protrudes into does not align with plunger when mounted on magazine thereby keeping floorplate's forward and rear lips from moving into recesses which keep it secrued to magazine.

You need to make sure the floor plate "lips" can move freely into their grooves. I'd do that before enlarging the hole.

Best to remove the plunger/spring (by driving out the retaining pin) before trying to fit the lips to the grooves. It may just be a burr or ding that needs removing somewhere.

Cleaned crud out of grooves where mag plate base fits and still would not stay on. So, enlarged hole tiny bit and viola - it fits. Must not have been but a "Unth of an inch.
