Old movies on youtube
« on: April 22, 2012, 03:33:20 PM »
I watched a couple of old Charlie Chan movies, and a couple of Sherlock Holmes movies on youtube recently. I have to say that I prefer that type of movie to the more complex modern films.

The access we have to the old movies and commercials and self help videos these days, via youtube.com, is nothing short of amazing.

About 95% of the newer movies..I just don't care for.  It sometimes seems that the only ones making good movies in Hollywood  anymore are either Mel Gibson or Robert Duval.
I would like to put in a plug for an evidently non-Hollywood company, ..AFFIRM films (distributed by Tri Star).  From what I understand, these actors are from a church near Atlanta, with real families often playing movie families.  They make terrific films..humor, action, suspense, first rate..natural actors and a very positive message.  Leaves you with hope and a warm, positive feeling and they are  clean. Some titles are "Fireproof", "Courageous", etc.

      Here's a trailer for "Courageous" :  http://www.youtube.com/user/courageousthemovie?ob=0&feature=results_main

And one for "Fireproof" :    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGgZmDdpV3A

I've seen both of those ... Courageous - I took my son to see with me at my men's church group.  Both movies are very decent, went straight to video of course, but have sold millions of copies.  We need more small time independents making good, family oriented movies.  Kirk Cameron, (I think his name is - and he was in Fireproof) made some for awhile and he got into the Left Alone series of books ... but the problem is distribution and hollywierd's reluctance to help distribute those movies to a wider audience.  I'm pretty sure Cameron is out of the business and doing evangelical preacher work these days.

We bought a box of 50 DVDs called Combat Classics from a catalog - really great stuff, to me anyway.  Many were made during WW II - definitely low budget, black and white, but very entertaining.  Some are a little weird, but we haven't been seriously disappointed yet.  There are a few such collections out there, ours has a WW II GI with an M1 on the cover.  Highly recommended, and cheap when you consider how many hours you get.

Another source of good, clean movies.  Not overtly Christian but having same values:  http://www.familytv.com/

BTW:SCRooster..not to be critical...but that Tim Lehaye series was "Left Behind"..
