scope lapping?

Whats good to use to clean the lapping compond from the rings and do ya just clean them dry and install scope or should a light coat of oil or such be put on.

Since lapping will probably remove some of the coating on the rings, I suppose steel rings could rust over time.  For that reason, why not apply a light coating of oil and let is sit a few days before mounting the scope.  Use an oil that will not leave a lacquer.

Thanks that is what I was wondering,I cleaned them with rubbing alcohol I thought that would be ok.

On steel rings a little OxphoBlue will color the bare metal and I use WD40 to cover the rings and help the scope stick a little..

Thanks and I did have some oxy blue so thats done. It's hard to believe rings would be that much out of round.

i would guess that they arent so much out of round, just out of alignment? i would coat them with some remoil.

I like to use a light coat of liquid electrical tape,  really only black rubber cement on my rings.  helps add grip to the rings in hard kickers and protects the scope while allowing for 100 % contact with rings.
