Any buddy out there have one of the pedersol penn rifles in 45 flinter?
Some day down the road,maybe way down the road i want one of these long rifles.Got any thing good or bad to say about em?
first off i would have to learn all the in and outs of a flinter and all,i belive its a 1 in 48 twist but i think i could find the right load in time.
They sure are purty,like the looks of the frontier rifle also.
Dixie gun works have both these rifles at a litlle cheaper price than this link,but i like to look.

I aint never had one_ but my wife has a Pedersoli Blue Ridge "forty five" with "one in forty eight" twist_ and it shoots "like"a house afire"!!

Personaly I think thet is the "proper twist" for "forty five" roundball!!

Shootin flinters is easy, you put a cap in the pan under some powder, you hit the cap with a flint, and the powder goes off. You grab some of the flame and stick it through the little hole inna side of the barrel. It'd be much easier to light tiny matches and jus stick em in the little hole though.

I tried a Penn rifle once but couldn't get my face low enough to see the sights. I don't think I could ever shoot one.

Yore do"n it the "hard way!!

Carefully place the percussion cap in the "jaws" sideways and clamper down some! When ya pull the trigger_ the cap will strike the frizzen and "fire" will shoot towards thet liddle "hole" in the side of tha barrel set"n off the "main charge"!! (CAUTION: "left hand shooters" be sure to place the "open end" of the cap so it faces the barrel!!)

Now that i know how to operate a flinter,how do i get the patched round ball and powder threw that little vent hole?

Well first thing is to use a "liddle biddy" PRB (a magnify"n glas helps git everthin thru tha hole)!!

Then you "sqwirt" tha powder charge thru the liddle hole with one"a them "plunger tips" sold by TOTW!!

As usual, Rollingb is jess a litter off. Ya melt da lead, pour it through da hole - this way ya dont need a patch - the lead melts right inta da grooves. Gimme a couple a days an Ill figer how ta get da powder in.
