      In 1776, Representatives of the original thirteen colonies assembled and wrote the Declaration of Independence. With this document, our founding fathers proclaimed to the world that America was a democratic republic:

Ironically, that same year Alexander Fraser Tytler, a European historian published The Decline and Fall of the Athenian Republic. In his publication, Tytler reported that from his research he had determined the following:
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising them the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over a loss of fiscal responsibility, always followed by a dictatorship. The average of the world's great civilizations before they decline has been 200 years.  These nations have progressed in this sequence:
 
  From bondage to spiritual faith,
  From spiritual faith to great courage,
  From courage to liberty,
  From liberty to abundance,
  From abundance to complacency,
  From complacency to apathy,
  From apathy to dependency,
  From dependency back to bondage

Perhaps this is why our founders tried for a republic instead of a democracy. Irrespective, it appears that the same has happened to America. We are already a "once great nation". The relativists and the socialists are winning. :'(
 
At this point our only hope is our judicial system and it will probably be subverted by the executive branch soon.....no matter who wins.

We think our generation is so advanced, that we are smarter now than ever before. The more I learn about the men who founded our country the more I respect how brilliant they were.

I believe the majority of people were more brilliant also, because they were educated in things that really matter. The founders were representative of the people then, just as our elected are representative of the people now. 
I still believe education is the key to the direction we take. If people are not made aware of what it took, or what it takes to remain a free people, or what an over grown government can do to them, then we will not remain a free people. If each generation is not educated in the things that really matter, you will get what we are getting now.
I'm not trying to start an argument on what our education system is or isn't, but it has been designed to make people stupid, of the things that really matter.
