case hardening coloring barrel ?

it is possible to color a barrel to look like case hardening  instead of bluing a barrel ?

I think most of what you see today is done with some type of chemical bath, so I would think a barrel could be done easily if you can find out the chemical to use.  Someone here probably knows.  Larry

I've seen case colors replicated using oil and an oxy-acetelene torch. This was only colorizing and would be easily damaged or worn. I'm certain there are shops that could replicate the effect. You would have almost no corrosion resistance..
