shooting range

recently moved to arkansas 6 years ago north of fort smith, am looking for a small gun range to shoot at.
i am a disabled vet vn 68-69 i did join the range at ft smith area but was to expensive and crowded.
would like to find a small 100 yd range at the least, private club,  or a game land range. even further up north towards fayetteville  area.  thanks for any help  al

Check with G&F, they did have 100yd. range up by Beaver Lake.

When I lived in Mena, I just hauled my portable bench and targets out to a secluded spot in the Nat'l forest with a good hill behind the target and shot away. My seat was a 5 gal. bucket that I carried my sand bags in and I used frames for my targets that pushed in the ground.  I picked up all my brass and any trash so there was no evidence I was ever there.  I could take my time and concentrate on my shooting rather than keeping an eye on other shooters and their questionable gun handling abilities.  The FS takes a dim view of putting targets on live trees and throwing out beer cans and I do too.  With a little exploring, you should be able to find a good spot in the Mountainburg area.  By the way, I'm a 6.5x55 fan too and hail from Jonesboro.

How long has it been since you were a member of the OFGC?

In the past couple of years the river range has been vastly expanded as far as shooting positions and individual pistol bays go. Before the expansion especially on Saturdays when the matches were going on it was very crowded. They addressed this issue with the added bays.

Then there's the Alma range which is a quiet 100 yard range in the woods that's virtually never crowded.

Membership for me is only $80 yearly and I'm pretty sure they offer discounts for disabled vets
