28" Bergara .243 Chronographed
« on: April 29, 2012, 03:32:11 PM »
Bought a 28" .243 playmate for the 20" 460 S+W Encore. Chronographed the Winchester 95 gr SBT factory loads. 3107 fps. I am most likely going to cut the barrel to 24". Has anyone shot this load through a chronograph in a 24" gun barrel? The 28" barrel just looks funky long.

How's the barrel group or have you been to the range yet?

It is at the gunsmith's as we speak being cut and crowned to 23". I will then mount a Nikon Monarch 2.5X-10X BDC with Deadnutz mounts and sight it in with the factory 95 gr Win SBT. I will make new chrono readings with the 23" barrel and post. Maybe this weekend. I will probably take the .460 S+W barrel and do the same with it.

Got it back. Ten shots averaged 3043 fps with factory Winchester Supreme 95 gr SBT out of the newly cut and crowned barrel. That is a loss of 64 fps about 12.8 fps per inch. I only shot 1 three shot group it was 26mm which is about a 1.09 inch group. I shot off of sand bags on a wobbly table.

I shot 85 gr barnes with a 28 inch fluted TC pro hunter barrel at over 3400.  I was not loading close to max.
