110 internal to box mag conversion?
« on: April 30, 2012, 02:13:20 PM »
Hay, y'all, just wandering if anyone knows if I can take a savage 110 and replace the internal mag with a detatchable box mag.  There seems to be no bottom metal visable with the stock on.  I can't take it apart because it's in a pawn shop.  Thanks.

It can be done but it can be kinda difficult.  It also has to be centerfeed(aka a newer savage), not staggerfeed like the older models. If it is centerfeed all you need is a mag and a factory savage stock made for a detachable magazine.

On that note I have an older 110 long action .243 that I'd love to make accept m14 or fal mags, but it seems in all my searching no one has done it nor can it be done.

Thanks, i'm thinking about getting either a used savage 110, remmy 700, or other big brand rifle,OR a marlin xl7, H&R Handi rifle, or something like that new and was just wanting to scope my options for customization and improvement.

It's really about what you like! Any of those are fine choices. I love savages, but hate their wooden stocks. The synthetic ones on the other hand fit me great! So just find something you like and don't let anyone tell you this one is better than that one, etc.
