41 Mag Loads
« on: January 30, 2004, 04:57:32 AM »
My son just gave me a Ruger Blackhawk in 41 mag and I was wondering if you all have any good plinking and hunting loads. Powder and bullet recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

About 8gr Unique behind a good cast 210-220gr bullet makes a nice medium (950fps) load while about 18-18.5gr 2400 (work up) behind jacketed 210gr bullets is full power.

Blackhawk44s load is a good one (I use 8.5 gr Unique with that weight of cast).

For plinking I mostly use a 175 gr Lee 175 TC bullet tumle lubed and shot as cast over 5 gr of Bullseye.  They run 850 fps out of my Bisley 7 1/2" Ruger.  Really accurate, fun to shoot and deadly on small game.

For deer, elk or piggies work up to 24 gr of H110 with a Hornady 210 XTP.  (not for use in S&Ws).  They run right at 1500 fps out of my Bisley and are quite deadly on critters.

Anyways, that's what I use.

WORK UP CAREFUL ON THAT H110 LOAD

WOW  24 gr of H110 in your 41!  I'm pretty timid but I think I slowed down at about 21 gr or a hair over with the old Hornady 210 full patch bullet in my Bisley.  I'd check the books and sneak up real careful on that load.  'Course I also wanted them to work in my Smith too.
