As will SSK and Bullberry Barrel Works.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Not trying to be rude. Why would want that short of a barrel?

I've never owned or shot a T/C barrel under 12 inches.

What cartridge should I try?

The only one that comes to mind as a viable cartridge is the 25-20 Winchester.

My only concern is I won't own a barrel I can't hunt with. I don't believe in owning a barrel just for plinking.

Any of the "handgun" calibers will have enough to hunt with in an 8" Contender, assuming they did in a revolver.  357 mag and max, 41, 44, 45 all will do just fine.

I have an 8" 45-70 that is interesting!  I also hunt with it.

I'm just getting into t/cs.  I like shorter barrels in handguns.  My standard 44 magnum is a 5.5" Ruger Acusport SS Bisley with a 5.5" barrel.  8" will feels mighty big!  Dennis

Just?! .......JUST????  <grin>
Plinking is my number one reason for shooting.  Hunting is just an excuse to get into the woods. ;)

As for short barrel calibers, as mentioned any of the pistol calibers.  There are also "more interesting" calibers that would perform well in short barrels like the Herretts, Hornets and others.  Even my 10" 223 is good if you take measures to minimize muzzle blast such as hand loading light bullets and using powders that are on the fast side.

Sadly, I've owned one revolver. A Taurus Tracker in 45 acp. Eventually, I sold this gun just because I had no use for it.

Eventhough, all the cartridges mentioned above are fine cartridges, the only one that interests me is the 357 Max of which I already have a barrel in.  Small game hunting is something I enjoy. A 8 or 10" 30 Reece might be just the ticket.

Wow, like a 30 Herrett "light"!  That is one that would interest me as well.  The 30 Herrett throws a 135 gn bullet at about the same velocity as the 30 Reece does a 110 gn.

Yep a 30 Herrett light.

4 years ago I purchased 200 brass and a set of Hornady 30 Reece dies from Carson Reece just for a rainy day project like this.

Anyway, I would use 32-20 data for small game loads to shoot bunnies and squirrels.

Most any custom barrel maker will make a barrel any way you want it as long as its safe.

I for one have never owned nor probably never will a short TC barrel or a TC in a pistol caliber except for the 357Max which was a 14" barrel. Not knocking those who do its just not my cup of tea. For my personal use if I,m going to shoot pistol cartridges I 'll do it from a revolver. My purpose for getting into TC's was the appeal of shooting rifle cartridges from a pistol.
