OK GENTS: what might i be doing wrong? I put out some deer carcasses and they got hit quick, within 2 weeks they had a car kill cleaned up to just the front shoulders and head left, they havent come back. THE other was deer rib cages and were all gone in same time so i refreshed with a dead calf i got from my BIL but they havent touched it. We have 8" of snow and have walked thru them all to make trails but alas no tracks. Where did they go and why?

where did they go and why?
Good question.  Now I am not a coyote and therefore can't answer, but to guess... with all that feed laying there? Why go anywhere.  But then yotes move,  they come and they go. Maybe the food was good and they hung around longer than they would have anyway because of it.  Maybe it was just time for them to be somewhere else. Maybe they found another dead cow or deer.  I don't mess around a bait pile or a set after making it one can not improve on Mother Nature you know...  A dead cow is hard to beat, just by itself.
Maybe you are premature in starting to worry about the coyotes being gone,
and they are waiting for the meat to age a bit to their tastes, they will be back if I know coyotes. Good luck,  the wondering and questioning is the sign that you are learning and thinking like a yote.

Bait Piles

Yotes are  funny sometimes.   Like you mentioned they really came into your bait piles and then just went away...  I have whole cow carcasses that yotes havent even touched in 8 months... They come around  near area but dont bother to touch it.... I also have had deer carcasses with same results.  Then again ive had bvr  and deer carcasses consumed over night or within a few days.  Remember one thing they will be back...... maybe two weeks maybe 2 to 6 months but alas trapping season isnt always open that long and of course  unless you want to find out which area they are in and own a gas company to fuel yr vehicle its  up to the yotes  to when they want to come back....  It is evident though they have found food some other place and food is abundant or they would be back  as they have to eat to survive.   Good luck and PATIENCE!
