Barrel Removal Question
« on: May 03, 2012, 03:27:51 PM »
Earlier today I started to disassemble my contender pistol to change it to a carbine rifle.  I removed the two forend srews and the walnut pistol forend.  I then removed the hinge pin and the barrel moves, but it gets hung up and doesn't come off of the action.  What step am I missing?  Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

Try cocking the action and see if that helps, perhaps one of the latches is hanging a bit.

I always open the action before removing the pin. I do not close it until the pin is reinstalled. Same with my Encore.

well then you're not missing anything that comes to mind.  That's the same procedure I follow myself.  Last guess on my part is there might be a burr or ding that has been overlooked.  When you get it off I'd look it over real carefully, there should be nothing holding it once the pin is out.

Always open the action before removing the barrel.  When you activate the release lever (trigger guard) to open the action with the barrel pin removed you can cause the barrel to bind in the frame.  Pain in the patooty to get the pin back in, but sometimes that is what you have to do to get the barrel to release.
