22 Caliber Adapters for a 45 LC
« on: May 05, 2012, 01:37:08 AM »
My 4 5/8" stainless Ruger Vaquero in 45 LC has moved to the top of the list of pistols I take with me most everywhere. Just love the look and feel of it. While surfing the net the other night I saw some chamber adapters that allow you to shoot 22 LR in guns chambered for the 45 Colt. I just had to have some as I love versatility in a gun. They showed up yesterday and I was really surprised at the close range accuracy I got with these critters. Close as in 15-20 feet or snake killing distance when I'm fishing. My wife and I could consistently shoot 1 1/2 " freehand groups at the ranges mentioned. Long range would be out of the question but this ain't  bad for a little piece of steel with an offset hole and no rifling. Just lets me play more and play more cheaply with my favorite pistol.

Just did something totally un-manlike. I read the instructions that came with the adapters. Everything is pretty SOP except I found out that the adapters have polygonal rifling. I'm guessing that this accounts for the acceptable accuracy I'm getting from them. Must admit that I was amazed with their accuracy yesterday when I thought there was no rifling at all in them.

Good to hear!  I've been looking at those for a few years, but never jumped.  Might have to now.  hehe  Are they the ones at the Sportsmans Guide?

Yep. Full set is $49.99 not counting shipping. Like getting a new/old gun. Also when I turn the hole toward the inside of my cylinder the ejector rod will push out the spent 22 brass and not push out the adapter.

Very cool.  Probably keeping smaller diameter helps with the group size.  That's one thing I'd wondered about whether they would just rotate all over.  hehe

Seems to me that no rifling would make it a smoothbore shotgun.
