308 Dies for a BLR
« on: January 30, 2004, 05:21:38 PM »
I would like to start reloading my .308 in a BLR rifle. My question is this: Do I need to get small base dies for the BLR or will standard full length be ok?? Thanks in advance, Rudy

I dont have a BLR, but, I do have a Savage 99 in .308

I use standard (Hornady) dies in a single stage press(RCBS).

As long as I make sure the dies are set correctly and I am careful to run the cases ALL the way up, I get along just fine.

However, if I were to go to a progressive, ( A Dillon 550, is calling its sweet siren song to me) I think I would go with  the small base dies as I recall reading somewhere that progressives don't re-size as fully as single-stages do.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, mind, and soul...........but......Front site, press, repeat as needed

I use standard dies in .358 for my BLR, and so far I've had no unusual problems.

I also use standard dies for my .308 BLR.  Work just fine on a single stage and on a progressive.
