House Democrats push bill to make SELF DEFENSE ILLEGAL??? Democrats in the US House of Representatives are pushing a bill to strip states from having Castle Doctrine/Stand Your Ground type laws. Further if the states refuse to comply then the bill would withhold Federal funding from going to the states.

luckily they can't pass it, but you can bet that hussein will figure a way to bypass congress in his second term, and congress will let him do it.

I think that the castle doctrine is a good law, stand your ground, not so much as the Zimmerman/Martin case is showing us. By the way, in the article posted where does it say that the castle doctrine is being threatened?

guzzi. Stand your ground had nothing to do with poor lil trayvon. Z was attacked and he defended himself. Here in KY we have both laws. Week before last there were 3 home invasions reported, all 3 resulted in the BGs being shot, 2 in hosp, 1 dead. I knew the dead guy, his Mom is a good friend. The feds have no business in this, individual states should make those laws. One of the shootings in LOU was a 16 year old black punk, shooter was black too, seems that al and jesse were no shows. POWDERMAN.

This is why the federal govt. is in the state that it's in. You have the fed's trying to push around state's laws, when it's clearly state's rights, not fed's. I guess that most of congress hasn't read or understand the constitution. gypsyman

Maybe this will be the nudge states like Texas will need to tell the feds to take a hike. Hey maybe it would be a good idea to with hold money from the feds if they don't do as the majority of citizens want ?

I notice that they are trying to use the Commerce Dept spending bill to get this rammed through.

The whole "commerce clause" thing has been a knife in the guts of freedom for way too long! Perhaps it is time we started concentrating our efforts on getting that one repealed?

I agree with Guzzijohn. In the last few months I have had 2 incidences of brandishing by friends of friends. There a lot of empowered buttheads that took a course in CCP and now think they are tough guys.

I guess you have some inside info on Zimmerman/Martin case.

If you read the article it mentions Florida twice and refers to states with laws like Florida. Maybe if we just deny its going on, the democrats and their communist ideas will go away.

The Zimmerman/Martin deal was a great 2 for the price of 1 opportunity for the Socialist Demoncraps. They wanted to energize the Blacks & White Libs facinated with race for Nov. & wanted to use this for gun control, good deal for them. No problem seeing this one coming.

We have some of the most liberal gun laws in the world and pay a price for that. I believe in the castle doctrine, but what stops drunks with concealed weapons from getting in your face under the stand your ground law? The Martin case seems obvious so far, in that Zimmerman followed and pressured him. Martin was football player that kicked his behind, so Zimmerman shot him. That is not the America I want to live. in.

that's strange. I've carried and been around people that carry for 30 years at least, and I've never known brandishing to happen.

There is nothing wrong with stand your ground laws. If I am somewhere legally and minding my own business when some piece of garbage decided to attack me why should "duty to retreat" fall on me? Its not right.

When it comes to defending my loved ones, my property and/or myself, in the end it comes down to this, I will be judged by 12 before I or my loved ones will be carried by 6. Laws or no laws.

Arbitrary doesn't enter into it. Your feel the threat of death if you respond with lethal force. You don't know where things will escalate to from the initial threat.

That citizens arrest thing always worked out pretty well for Gomer Pyle. As far as states rights,wasn't that the main reason for the Civil War? If self-defense deaths have indeed tripled in Florida (I'm skeptical) since the stand your ground law was enacted, I think it would be interesting to see if there is a pattern in the type of people that have been killed. Were they upstanding citizens or were they career criminals that had their careers cut short?

Violent crime drops like a stone.....but we can't have people defending themselves? In reality, far fewer people are being killed due to the major drop in violent crime, but we absolutey MUST put a stop to one of the very factors that has created that result!

So what is your answere? Are you going to ask the masked guy are you intending harm to my family or are you just going to rob us before you make up your mind to protect your family? I myself would not hesitate in protecting my family no matter what the cost. If I were able to save their lives while having to spend 10 years in prison because of biased judges hell yeah. To some people their family means something.

I think we have a misunderstanding here. I am politically liberal, but willing to use deadly force. If were are specifically talking about a guy with a weapon, hell yeah. Many people define a threat in different terms. You can't go around shooting people because they look suspicious or have a big mouth. Zimmerman is case in point. I hope that helps.

In most states you must witness a felony to make a citizens arrest. If you are wrong you can face charges that may include kidnapping .
Others point out that you can stand your ground and you can. What most fail to realize or ignore is the castle doc or new stand your ground DO NOT GIVE YOU ANY NEW RIGHT ! what it does is place the burden of proof you broke the law back on police , they cannot arrest you then build a case they have to prove you acted in violation of the law to arrest you. What has been going on in FL. is the law working as it should.
also if you stand your ground you don't follow and help instigate the fight. Why would any prudent person follow someone after calling police ? or for that matter if the other guy was leaving ? Self defense is about staying alive and unhurt following goes aginst all ideas of self defense .
Someone ask what keeps a drunk from pulling his weapon ? nothing really same guy could drive thru. a crowd . Its the price we pay for freedom , soilders are not the only ones who die for freedom . From what history tells us as free men and women we lose less than those who live under other forms of govt.
dims want to make freedon illegal , self defense is but one step .
