UL line
« on: May 10, 2012, 10:26:49 AM »
I'm going fishing for the first time in 20 years and need new line. I used to use Silver Thread 4lbs. Any suggesting on a good line to use? I have a 11' Match Rod and a 5' UL.

This is what I am using on my Ultra-Light set up and I have found it to be better than most of the brands out there, although it may not be the best.

I've found the Excell lines to have way too much memory for my liking. Silver Thread is a great low memory line with good break strength and small dia for test weight. Don't know much about the current crop of "Super Lines", still have a few bulk spools of 8 and 16 pound test Silver Thread, and AN 40. I'm still using line that I bought 15yrs ago. My spools have been stored in a cool dark place. Seem to be in as good a shape as the day I bought it. I don't necessarily recommend it, but I'm using line that's on reels stored in my boat's rod box that's 3 yrs old. Still casts fine, and if it's weakened any I can't tell. I don't think mono degrades as fast as the line manufacturers would like us to believe.
