Teardrop Shaped Shot?
« on: May 12, 2012, 11:49:43 PM »
Just curious... why wouldn't teardrop shaped shot be the ideal, rather than spherical? I'd somewhat expect the more properly streamlined teardrop shape, once it straightens out in the airstream, to have better aerodynamic?

I guess it depends upon what it does BEFORE it gets "straightened out" that counts.  Perhaps it would be more difficult to control accurately, the degree of "tear" from the shot tower. Then too, would the tiny, fragile tail remain undamaged during handling and loading, etc ?  If they got bent, even a little bit..it may prove just what "scatter gun" really means..
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Good point about the deformation. Otherwise, I'd have tended to say..."Well, they got to be teardrops by moving through the air in the first place", LOL!
