i have ruger stainless single six not very happy with accuracy. in 22 or mag not even close to the mk 2 in 22 lr. i know it's not me how are yours shooting.

I bought one that the timing was a little off and it was shaving lead and accuracy was bad. Send it into ruger and they did me right. Accuracy is good now, in both .22 and mag.

Bought one back in the 70's and the front sight was milled out of plumb and out of line, replaced it and everything is fine, still have it today.

After having the ramp front sight replaced with a patridge sight and getting an action job done on it the gun shoots better than me. My tired old eyes and shaky hands aren't capable of taking advantage of the accuracy it delivers.

I've toyed with getting an FA97 to replace it but honestly if I did I'd not turn in smaller groups because I'm the weak link in groups these days. It's tough knowing ya was once one of the top shooters in the state and now to think ya doing great if ya actually turn in a 2" 25 yard group from the bench. There was a time when I could keep them in an inch at that range free hand. Those days are long gone never to return.

I love the single six revolvers, own several of both old and new models. Have owned and shot a lot of them over the years. You will find a few of them that have barrel cylinder alignment problems and a few that are bad enough to shave lead at the forcing cone. The good thing is Ruger will fix them. Call Ruger and talk to them about it. As a side note I have a couple of the new model single six revolvers that only had 22 mag cylinders when I traded for them. Did not want to pay the cost of sending them back to Ruger for new long rifle cylinders so just kept and shot them as 22 mag. Was told Mr. Al Story of the Borchardt Rifle co made cylinders for them. I called and ordered 2 of the 6 shot 22 long rifle cylinders. They are blue and unfluted, required minor fitting and are as accurate as any single six cylinders I own. They are a little long for some of the old models I have but could have been fitted for them. I say this because I spent a while looking for a cylinder for one of the old models I have. Did not want to send it back and them do their conversion on it. Mr Graybeard if this is an improper post for giving the name of a company just delete the post. Was not ment as an ad but as a thumbs up for another place to find replacement cylinders. Thank you.

Man, I have an old one with a long barrel(9.5?) that shoots better than some .22 rifles I have had.Ironically,it is all I have left to show from the trade of my first car,a 69 SS chevelle,so I guess it is priceless to me.

I have one since the early 70's I think it has a 6 1/2" barrel and this gun will take drive 22 bullets:I find the CCi stinger and CCi Mags shoot the best just a fun gun to shoot

My buddy and I both have the single six with 9" barrels and shoot them in IHMSA silhouette. I was tired of getting beat by the FAs by only 1 or 2 targets. I spent the extra bucks and got the FA. My scores are 1-2 targets better in a 40 or 60 round match. Last year my buddy's $100 single six beat my $1900 FA by a target. I had a couple of bad holds. He shot a great match. Find the right ammo and they will be competitive.

Yeah, they can shoot.

I think I paid 280$ for my convertible used, it was a 9.5, I turned it into a 4 5/8"s

That guy is the luckiest person I know when it comes to falling into a gun deal with someone looking for quick money. I can't complain because I am usually (not always tho) 2nd in line. He did help me pick up an as new XP100 for $400 and a contender barrel for $65. He has a Ruger MKII that he paid either 100 or 125 for. Has a couple of XPs he picked up for around $300 to 350.

I paid the big $$s for the FA so I could beat him in the matches. It was probably 70-30 or 60-40 wins comparison with him having the higher percentage of wins. Needless to say, he is still competitive with the less expensive handgun.

My single 6 is a little poor in the accuracy department too. It does considerable better if I feed it Remington Golden Bullets though.

I have it on the reliable authority of a close friend, and very disciplined shot, that fire lapping correctly has improved his newer stainless model and that another regime is yet in order to complete it to his satisfaction.

I have two of them and they are great. Like another poster above said, these shoot better than some rifles. Dont get me wrong, at least with me shooting, mine can't come close to my heavy barreled scoped 10/22, but they are just as good as some sporter weight barreled rifled I have had with iron sights (only fair to compare iron sights with iron sights instead of a scope). My Contender with a .22 Match barrel just barely beats them, and even that is not 100% of the time.

Mine isn't as accurate as my MkII Target or my old Standard but it is accurate enough to squirrel hunt with. I think that mine is more accurate with the 22Mag cylinder (hard on squirrels though) but it is accurate enough with the 22LR.

I have had a couple including bearcats. Your right, none are as accurate as my MKII or MKIII semi autos. BUT these damn autos will shoot in one hole with good ammo that they like!! N

I have two now, a first model with adj sites in 22Mag only. I also have a 1959 22LR 5.5" si gle six (fixed sites ) They both shoot very well maybe 1" at 50'. Plenty accurate for what I need them for.

There is a tiny difference in diameter between a 22LR and a .22Mag. The Mag is just a little bigger and probably fits the bore of the single six a little tighter. I didn't know that until recently when I read an article on the new Ruger .22s.

The weapon is just the tool.. The shooter is responsible for the out come.

I've shot one that was .22 LR only and it was very accurate. The current combo ones seem much less so. You might try a Paco Kelley Accurizer tool which can be used to bump the tips of .22 LR out to .224 to fit the .22 magnum bore better.

Same here.
I decided that for a gun that will outlast me, it was worth it to send the gun with LR cylinder to one of the well known SA pistolsmiths. It now is tighter than ever, with a match grade barrel from an Anschutz target gun installed. It runs right along with the big dogs now (Ruger MK II's, K-22's...). I sold the mag cylinder which partially offset the total cost.

This is something most overlook. As most people frankly don't really shoot well enough to knotice.

I think the cylinder gap and forcing cones damage accuracy more than a possible .001 in the barrel. But your correct, the two bullets are different diameters.

i had a 'combination' sa years ago i got rid of it because of the that very reason in favor of a dedicated .22lr
my preferemces are the same now as then...stick with "dedicated"...you'll be better off in the long run...

well i sold my pistol the other day i really didn't like the way it fit my hand .handle was to small and accuracy was bad ill stick with my mk one.i would like to get a mk2 in stainless.i bought the revolver with a 22mag cylinder and had it fit with a 22lr not worth the price.
