gypsyman salt that popcorn, put a big slab of butter on it as well.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Now that ppine isn't going to post on this message board about Obama, I think my blood pressure went down a couple points. Now, if a couple others can see the light, I think I'll go put salt on my next batch of popcorn.  :D gypsyman
Hold That salt.
He said he was not going to post here.
He did not say he understood how we can see the Office of the President and the Man in the Office as two seperate entities.
He did not say he agreed that Mr. Obama was not respectful of the population, that he was nto respectfull of the office he holds, that he was not respectful of the laws and thoughts that have made America great.  He still seems to be part of the country that can not seperate the race, religon, or gender of a person from their actions.
I would love to see A black president like Walter Williams, Justice Thomas, Mz. Rice.  As they think the same as I do.  Allow the private sector to work it's magic, keep the government small and not over reaching, and keep taxes low.

Nope I don't agree. Respect the office but not what's currently occupying it. He has zero respect for the nation he is supposed to be leading so I have zero respect for him.

I'm with just about everyone else here. I have no respect for the President. I will never respect a president that hates what this country is about. There can now be no question about it. Obama hates what America stands for, and he has done everything in his power plus some, to tear it down. I also don't have much respect for a person that respects Obama and what he is doing. Its like asking if we respect Kim Jong the 2nd, Gadafi, or Robert Mugabe.

Well, I may sound redundant but anybody who does not respect the Office of the President does not respect our Constitution.  Anybody who respects the current holder of that office is a damn fool.

I guess I'm late to the party!
But here's my $.02
The OP should have known better than to expect a bunch of old farts that worked for what they have in life , and most have served their country and LOVE this country to respect someone who has proven to be a disgrace to the office!
Maybe next time he will give his thoughts to someone who ISN'T an AMERICAN!
He should have went down and brought the subject up with some OWS groups .

ppine didn't know the lay of the land all that well. I do.

Years ago, I thought the contempt shown Dubya by the left - the MoveOn.org-type gang? - was a result of the innate immorality of leftists. Then I see even NASTIER behavior by rightwingers - some of them publicly professing Christians? - and there's not a bit of diff when it comes to character.

Rather coincidentially he and a long time member and moderator of some forum (forget which) are jointly using the same static IP address. Hmm, wonder how that could be?

Me thinks he knew the land of the land well when he made his posts. I just wonder what his endgame is?

I have never called Obama a name.  I just stated the facts about him.  I didn't like the Patriot Act or Homeland Security that Bush started.  I though he was wrong by invading Iraq.  I knew we would be there a long time.  Once you get rid of the status quo of any country, you have to get a governmental system in place to operate the towns, counties, states, etc.  I remember Patton was pushed by Eisenhower as to why it was taking him so long to replace the Nazi leadership in all his occupied areas.  It was easy for Germany in WWII to occupy countries, by keeping the same governmental structure, but changing the leadership to pro Nazi.  When we occupied Iraq, we had to stay long enough to get new leadership in all the areas, from president or prime minister all the way down to mayors and police chiefs, before you could leave the country.  That is why Bush sr. didn't go ahead and occupy Iraq in 1991 because of the long occupation and subsequent costs to keep peace while a pro-American government could be established.  Like I said Obama is a socialist or communist.  All the facts show this to be true.

Thanks to all for your responses.  They are very revealing.  The political discussions are too Southern and too much like 50 years ago so this will be my last post.  I will continue with the technical discussions.  Considering the emotionally charged nature of these discussions most people are pretty civilized on the forum.  But the fact the group does not respect the President shows me that I am wasting my time.

I wasn't alive 50 years ago, and I'm not southern.  I won't get emotional.

Obama continually throws our money away.  He continually insults people and says that everyone else is blocking an effective government, and he will try and do everything he can to bypass the legislative system to make what he believes is right happen, while leaving the rest of the country to suffer for his decisions.

I do respect my fellow americans.  I often disagree with them on many points.  I definitely don't agree with electing obama - his immaturity and prejudiced opinions have been shown on things that a President should have no weight in.

The thing is, if you blindly respect a person because of status that they hold, what value is your opinion?  Do you think it's any different in North Korea?  If a person has pride for their country they should have pride in their leader?  In Iran?  In Syria?   Every country has something to be proud about, but the people who run the country should never be put on a pedestal.  I know I have listed some defunct countries, but I'm sure there are many thousands of people just like you in those countries that think leaders need respect based on being leaders - which is not true.

The President of the United States of America should have one goal.  That goal is to serve the people.  If he uses his own ideas, which are very unpopular to run this country, then he is not serving the people, and therefor not garnering any respect for himself.

I'm not going to say anything about who's american, or communist, or socialist or throw any broad definition on anybody, including obama.  It doesn't matter what he is.  It shouldn't matter who he is.

The only thing that matters is that as the president, he needs to be a mirror that reflects the will of the american people.

 - Man that's good I need to quote myself! hahahaha -

And using the office of the president for one sided goals without compromise, while paying way too much attention to public image and banter, while not giving any attention to the government under him which runs ridiculously inefficiently, is selfish, and not a trait of a respectable man.

I think there is a difference between the Move on crowd and the people here.  The big difference is the Move on crowd hated Bush becasue he had an R in front of his name.  Plane and simple they are bigots.  They hate him for the group he belongs to not the actions he has taken.  Conversly I do not like the President for the Actions he has taken.   The aragance he has shown for us not wanting hi view of changing the country.  I think the behavior of the right wingers has been lawful, it may not have been nice but it was not the hate inspired demonstrations and vile things the Left has said about Either of the Bush presidents or Ronals Reagan.  We have been asking questions, that he is unwilling to answer.  We have been looking at the actions of this Adminastration and disagree with his unsconstitutional actions.  How is that un christian?  How is it Racist to question his actions?

The only reason that "respect the office" is commonly used today is because so few presidents themselves are worthy of respect. "Respect the office" is just a rhetorical crutch, metaphorically like putting lipstick on a pig.

I will do the same. I have to admit... that during the Clinton administration, I did not. I was a contemptuous know-it-all who thought that showing contempt=Being Right. I grew out of it, thank God.

Teasing can be a show of effection as well as hate. One must consider both the source and contex . To read some here we should ban political cartoons and satires. SNL will have to close down.
If a president can stand the heat maybe he should stay out the kitchen , btw how can we expect a president to weather the pressure of the office when negoating with other conutries if a little ribbing gets to him , think of it as training ! If he couldn't take it we might expect him to cower down , appoligze , talk bad about our country in front of the world or something.

That is a good line, corbanzo, but don't be to quick using it. Sometime leadership involves moving people in directions they do not want to go. Do we want the prez to lead, or represent?

Well I think both are necessary - but lead in the utilitarian sense, where the long term concerns of all people are taken into account.

It really seems a lot of "pop" issues are concerning the office and we are spending resources on things that aren't going to help us.

Kind of like a lot of our government was built in times of great growth and prosperity... And now that we don't have that, culling needs to happen. Yes, of course some suffer as effects of that, but we need to keep moving forward.

Oh and to totally change the subject, why didn't he support gays four years ago and now all of a sudden he has a solid stance on it??
