Owned perhaps the first P90 to hit this area back when they came out. I believe other than being a .45acp it's the same gun. It was a real POS. It didn't seem to want to feed anything factory or reloads and was horribly inaccurate at a time when I was one of the top competition shooters in the area.

When I tired of it I couldn't find a dealer who'd even accept it as a trade in at any value. It took me a really long time to finally locate a dealer willing to take it in trade and he sure didn't give me much for it.

That was merely a sample of one your luck might vary but I'll never own anything in that series ever again.

Sorry to hear that GB. I have one I bought back in the mid 90's and have never had a jam or fail to fire of any kind. Seems fairly accurate to me(I am not a top shooter by any means) and pretty much indestructible. It is a heavier, bulky gun so would not reccomend for CC, but that is not what it is intended for. I carry it in the woods and in the truck. Not a safe queen. I have probably put 5000 rounds through it over the years without a mishap.

Had a P89 several years ago.  Started out with a decocker model and changed to one with a safety.  Dang good shooting 9mm.  Also never had any failures of any kind even with cheap aftermarket mags.  I killed a couple groundhogs with it in a friend's barn lot where they had burrowed up.  I thought it was a little too heavy and uncomfortable to carry.  Ended up trading it and paying $68 to boot a couple years later for a Savage 110 FP in .223 to go on a prairiedog shoot.  Best gun trade I ever made.

I have had a p89 for about six years now, I love it! 
 
It is made for big hands, built like a tank.  Long trigger pull, big slide comes back like a hammer.  If you are looking for something a french girl would shoot, this isn't it.
 
I have not once had a failure to fire, always been very smooth, and I wouldn't doubt you could bore the barrel out to a .500 smith and it would probably still shoot it, the thing is built like a tank. 
 
VERY accurate.  The 9mm in a gun that big can make soda cans dance all day at 15 yards. 
 
Overall if you are into big frame guns that work and will eat anything, its a great way to go.

I often say I am a "P series guy".  I have 3 P-89's, 2 P-95's, 2 P-97's, 2 P-90's, 1 P-94, and I think that is all.  I love shooting them. Don't think I have ever had a failure to fire with any of them.   Wallacem in Ga

I have the P-89, P94, and a P90, Traded my P85 off. Everyone I have owned has been a great  shooters. The 94 and 89 needed a couple hundred rounds down range to work the bugs out, but now they shoot anything from cheap factory to my Very light load cast bullets without a single problem, great range guns, but as said there are much better carry guns. They are a little on the bulky side.

Only thing I have against my P-90 is that it really throws the empty's a good ways--makes it harder to find and pick up to reload. My nephew wouldn't sell me his after I started shooting clover leafs with it at 15 yds. years ago--so I had to go buy my own.
 
Many police departments in North Carolina carried the P-90 and the P-89 years ago when I lived there--from what some of the officers I talked to said--they liked the Rugers better than the Smiths they replaced.

had a p89 and a couple p90's and now a p85 and a brand new p95 that is waiting for me to get home and break in. absolutely no problems, acuracy has been average plus, eat anything i fed them. not very attractive but dependable. the p85 i have now was imported back to the u.s. from israel, it has the import stamp on it and has the arms room rack stickers in hebrew. i'm guessing maybe it was israeli police or maybe border patrol, pretty cool. functions fine. good gun for the money in my opinion.

Had a P 90 soon after they came out too, mine had very few factory loads through it, mostly cast bullet match loads to high enders and worked fine. In those days I was shooting NRA Bullseye comp. and it was match accurate, but huge. It was a natural pointer for me and could dance the can out at 25 to 50yds. without much trouble. For all that, it really was a horse pistol and I didnt like carrying it, so it went away.

I've always thought that the P series got an un-deserved bad reputation.  I have one of the original P85s, pre MkII.  No doubt, it is big and bulky and not a match pistol.  But it is accurate enough, light recoiling, and a solid dependable pistol.  I have had several other 9mm pistols and still have two Smiths (39-2 & 669), a Sig Sauer P6, XD9, and a Browning Hi-Power but there is just something about that big old Ruger that I like.  Mine has always been a good shooter and never has been picky about ammo.
For the money, I think that they are a good deal.

A trigger pull that isn't 75 yards long with stacking and cheaper magazines. 
I had a P89 and sold it.  A good gun but not my cup of tea.  The P90 is a little different and I read somewhere once that the barrels are top quality (possibly Jarvis mfg) and more accurate.

my buddie's son has a p-90 and
it's one of the better guns i've
shot. i had the first p-85 i'd ever
seen in this area. as i was talking to
the dealer, the ups man brought it
in , and the dealer never got to put
it in stock. it was ok except for the
safety seizing up from time to time
and it being a 9mm para gun. other
than that it was semi-ok .
i'd buy a p-90 if i could find one right.
