H&R Topper Deluxe
« on: May 17, 2012, 01:19:06 PM »
Looking at getting the Topper Deluxe(3 1/2" version) and noticed it weighs 6 3/4lb and my 870(3 1/2" version) weighs 7 1/2lb. Is there a way to get the H&R up to 7 3/4lb or 8lb easily? I'm gonna be shooting some pretty heavy loads in 3 1/2".....in and over the 2 oz. range.

What chokes do they interchange with?

Can a Remington super cell recoil pad fit this model? If not, what is the best recoil pad to get that fits it?

If anyone has one, please tell me your experiences with this model. Such as shell feeding and ejecting, durability,.....etc.

Thanks in advance!

You can add weight to the stock bolt hole, that info as well as recoil pad and choke tube info can be found in the FAQs, H&R single shots use Win/Browning/Mossberg tubes.

I don't have a Topper Deluxe but I have installed a Remington Supercell recoil pad on mine.  Here are a couple of pics.  It is not a perfect fit but it is close enough for me with a price at $20.

Thanks guys! I think I'm gonna pick one up. I'm probably gonna go with a mercury recoil reducer as well. I haven't been able to find a price for the topper deluxe, so what should i expect( keep in mind, this is the 3 1/2" version)? I noticed limbsaver seems to be big here, so what model fits these? Is one of their models better than the other? If there is anything else you think I should know about the gun please tell.

Thanks

MRR info as well as links to printable Limbsaver templates can be found in the FAQs sticky. Be aware the entire Topper line of shotguns has been discontinued, so it may take a while to find one, good luck.  ;)

Topper deluxe and topper deluxe classic are both pretty hard to find as the ha e stopped production.
PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

When did they stop production? Its still on their website. I guess I will have to get the pardner turkey model.

Also, Can you give me a link to where those templates were? I went through the FAQ's and didnt see them.

H&R still has them on their site for advertising for dealers that may still have them in stock, the BC Carbine was listed until just a couple years ago, but hasn't been made since 2008. Use the F3 or ctrl f page search as directed at the top of the page in the FAQs, keyword Limbsaver.

The 12ga Pardner Turkey has a fixed full choke, only the 10ga has screw-in tubes. FWIW, the full choke 12ga should work great with Federal Flitecontrol ammo, I shoot a 20ga TDC with a Trulock extended full choke and get excellent patterns at 40yds w/#7 Heavyweight ammo. The standard 12ga Pardner sells for about $120-$140 here, barrels can be found in the H&R classified forum for around $75 shipped, usually less.

So there is no H&R 12ga currently offered with interchangeable chokes, besides the barrel accessory program?

Does the 12 Ga pardner turkey have the steel bar in the buttstock? If so, then is that included in the advertised 6lbs?

Is the diameter of the H&R's buttstock screw hole 7/8"? What is the longest weight that will fit in the buttstock.

I contacted a place to see if they can make a me a 2lb mercury recoil reducer to put in it. I dont mind the weight as long as it smooths it up for me. So I will try and get back with you.

Thanks

They do list some accessory barrels that aren't available as complete firearms, you can ask about availability when you call them for the return authorization.

Can't answer that one, I don't have a 12ga, but their listed weights are ball park.

Yes, approx 8"

Thanks! I talked to the recoil suppressor guy, and he said that the heaviest can can make for me in that length is 20-25 ounces. I will get back with you on what my decision is. Just out of curiosity, can I drill the screw hole larger without causing an issue?

Sorry for all of the ignorant questions.

Thanks for your help!

i bought my CD at a gun store that was closing down, vent rib,two beads and choke tubes and walnut stock. it has no weight in the butt stock and is a three inch chamber, i installed sling studs on it. i have not shot a box of shells out of it yet, but i,ll tell you a three inch magnum lets you know when it goes off. eastbank.
