The 92A Weaver base doesn't perfectly fit a 10" Contender bull barrel, I have discovered. (1) Its diameter is less than the barrel diameter at the four mount holes; it sits atop the barrel like an upside down U on top of a circle; and (2) the barrel diameter tapers starting just past the four mount holes, which means the mount can act like a see-saw. If you push down on the far end it rises .010" to .015" on the near, chamber end. A hard kicking round would torque and twist the aluminum base with each shot and eventually loosen the mount screws
I corrected the gap under the upside down U with emery cloth, and I fixed the rise with epoxy; however, when I finish the how-to article I'd like to tell the reader of an easier correction . . . if there is one. So the question is: what scope base, if any, perfectly fits a 10" Contender bull barrel?
