I've often wondered that myself. I live in SE Wisconsin and I don't think there is much chance of it down here. Although gold is everywhere... I had a soils chemistry class in college and our assignment was to bring back some soil from our home area.  We then did a chemical extraction process to see if there was gold in our soil.  Every sample but one had some gold, unfortunately we're talking microscopic elemental traces of gold...

If you want to get into prospecting a Gpaa kit is a good way to start.  Lots of info and tools needed to prospect.  There is gold just about everywhere in WI, with the glaciated areas being the most productive.  The gold here is very fine.  I belong to the Wausau Prospectors Club.  http://wausauprospectors.com  we have an outing on private property near Parrish a couple times a year.  Always a little gold.  There are several other clubs in WI.  Tomah, Greenbush and I believe there is one near Winter.  Contact info can be found on our website.  If not contact one of our board members and they can help you.

Good luck and Good hunting.

I have a friend who panned some 17 miles north of Hayward.   No, he didn't quit his job and retire.
Vote them all out, EVERY election!

Does anyone remember the scene from "Quigley Down Under" showing the aborigines lined up on the skyline as far as you could see?   That needs to be US!
