I am not sure if it will harm the lens, but I think that you will lose some of your clarity with it on.

I use KleerVu anti fog cleaner on my optics with decent results. It's not Rain Guard but then Rain X isn't either and it does seem to help with fogging. I don't use it on my B&L Discoverer binos because it just smears on the Rain Guard coating.

Call the manufacturer different lenses have different makeups and can have a reaction when chemicals are added. Some things that might help is getting a lense pen and keeping your optics clean. Fingerprints and dust attract moister and can make fogging worse. Also If this is on binoculars roll the eyecups down and don't press them directly up to your eyes. This will create a space for some of the heat from you face to escape and can help in preventing fogging.

I've tried every anti-fog product I could get my hands on and they all work to one degree or another.

I haven't found one that didn't degrade the quality of the image.

In particular, avoid the ones that are wax based.

The one product that I know of that I haven't tried is a product called spectramar-barris (sp?). Years ago when I was diving we used it to keep our diving masks from fogging on the inside. Maybe I'll find a dive shop and see if they still make it.

What type of process does Bushnell use to apply raingard to their lens? Does it last forever or eventually wear off?

I'm not sure exactly how it is applied but it is done at the factory when all the other lens coating are added to the glass. It is garrenteed for life and bushnell really stands behind there elites.
