My goal has always been to do a multi barrel, but was a bit slow getting into it.  ;)  I'd considered the Rossi Wizard, but just couldn't go there.  hehe

Kinda hard for me to vote, as both apply.  My primary rifles, .223, 45-70, 280 are all dedicated.  My shotguns and rimfires get moved around a bit.  No particular reason, I just set 'um up the way I like 'um.

i currently have one that i swap and five that i don't,no reason just haven't sent them in yet,the one i do swap are pretty different 223,30-30,so they have different jobs so no problem switching in the off season and including it in a range trip to check zero

Multiple barrels is one of the main reasons for a Handi.  I've got four frames that have and are used with multiple barrels.  I will say that the Handi I just picked up in 35 Whelen will stay dedicated to that barrel.  It fires and functions with no problems and will have a dedicated purpose.

As an aside, I've had three Encores with six barrels.  I put the 35 Whelen barrels on them and sold all the others.

My main purpose for the Whelens is Miss. primitive weapon season and that's how they will remain set up.

Mine are all dedicated. Not because I think it's more accurate, because I dont. That's just how I do it. I do the same with my encores and contenders. Once I get one put together, I just leave it alone. :)

I cannot afford to have a ton of complete weapons, and handi's are both cheaper and more fun than the encore system. I had no idea that they could interchange when I bought my first one. Then I found this site...........
I first sent a receiver in to the factory for an accessory barrel. It got lost......... The insurance paid for it so I bought a replacement. Then I bought another. Then I saw what I thought was a deal on a barrel. When it arrived, it did not fit one..... or two...... 3 was perfect. So I had a frame with 2 barrels. Another barrel, same story, different frame. Traded locally for a case hardened frame 410, SB-1. Turned out a 28 ga also fit it perfect. One day I tried a shotgun barrel on a rifle frame....... locked up like a bank vault. Comb way too high and no drop to use, BUT, would it work the other way???? Rifle barrel fit perfect on the shotgun. The 444 , not so good........ but the other was a Hornet! My groups went from 1 1/4 down to 3/4 instantly.
This is pure serendipity, and so far, I have not found a barrel that would not fit one of those frames perfectly. It would run me another $125 to $ 150 to have a complete rifle. For that I could pick up another barrel, maybe dies and brass. Also, I do not shoot the same guns year round, in the fall it is cast loads and deer guns. In the winter and spring, varmint loads or shotguns. Summer- utility guns, for snakes, squirrels, and pests- armadillos etc. No use to let a frame / stock set that has a good trigger, and feel to it, set on the shelf with a " dedicated " barrel that is out of season.
Bad news is, unless they make something different, I am down to having to ream something, or I have everything I really want. ::)

I have a couple favorites that stay together but most of mine get switched around. So I vote multiple, just mostly because I can't afford as many recievers... Someday maybe but as long as I have a frame I can switch to I am happy having the caliber options. thejanitor

I have one SB2 And one SB1 ---- a 223 a 308 and a 357... the reason I wanted my first Handi -- save money and just buy the barrel to switch Caliber.

The Wife wants her own Handi now -- So I think -- or will try to get a new gun for her, like a 30-30 ---- as you guys say that is a good Handi barrel to have....
I'm also enjoying learning some simple gunsmith stuff!
I  hope someday to have my first wildcat barrel. And a Handi would a less expensive way I hope....And not tying up a whole gun.

I like Tim's re bore plan, A good use of a barrel that isn't shoot'n great!!!!

I have had H&R shotguns since I can remember. Sometime in the late '80's I found and bought a 357 maxi Handi. This got my "juices" flowing for the handis. Then in the early 90's, I had a "balloon PMT" due on my home and decided it was a good time to sell off duplcate and triplicate firearms. As I went thru what I was going to sell I came upon my Contenders... I sold almost all of them. I had many, many barrels in some obscure calibers. I had three or so receivers, a carbine and a couple handgun receivers. All sold, good $$ and mortgage paid down respectably. ;)

I mention this to show I was "in" on the multiple barrel/One rec. theology. Enter the handis... I started buying up barrels and complete guns when I found a caliber I liked. I quickly learned that, altho the swaps where easilly done, repeatability (IE Accuracy) was not always the best... Then we learned dedicated fore arms cured many of these issues. But still I found days when I could shoot stellar groupings and following visits dismuly, poor accuracy from same guns on following visits....

I began taking the Handi "favorites" and leaving these barrels mounted. I noticed continuity in accuracy from these guns. I also had a number of 257/258/SB1 receivers in older guns and wanted to upgrade to SB2 recievers as I hand load for everything and even tho mostly stay within "book" loads my pressures on many are right at SAMMI spec's. So the extra margins aforded by H&Rs strongest receiver was a good thing.
Slowly over a year or so I bought about a dozen SB2 receivers and at this time have a receiver on every handi I own. ALL of my handis are shooters, ALL are capable of excellent, CONSISTANT accuracy.

This is why I am a DEDICATED receiver kind of handihaulic and proud of it!

I swap, but that is just because I have more barrels than receivers.  Before anyone jumps on me for it though, I am planning on correcting that, but it has been a slow process so far and I have not completed it yet.

Well it looks like I am not a Dedicated Handiholic after all.  Just made a CF liner/adapter for my shorty 12 ga and I think I want to make another one or more in different calibers but I ain't allowed to buy any more guns! :'(  Poor little 12 ga is going to have to play host to a bunch of different calibers. :(  So it is with great regret and under extreme duress that I now must go by the label of "Switcher". :o ::) ;D

BTW, how come spell checker doesn't think the word "Handiholic" is legit?

I bought my first Handi rifle because H&R were having a barrel sale. I bought a 223 Ultra with cinnamon laminated stock and a 24" Bull barrel. I wanted a 44 Mag barrel, but they were out of them at the time, so I got a 357 barrel and because it was not too much more for a second barrel, I got a 30-30 with it too. 2 or 3 years later Gander Mountain had 44 Mags on sale with plastic stock and fore end. I sent off the frame and had a 22 Hornet and 444 Marlin barrels added. While I was buying, I bought a Cinnamon laminated stock for that frame and I bought 5 more cinnamon laminated fore ends, so that each barrel would have it's own. I now have just 2 frames, but 6 barrels that are all factory fitted and the serial numbers match in each set. The 357 barrel has been reamed to 357 Max and the 22 Hornet has been stubbed to a 22K Hornet. I am going to turn the 30-30 into a 30-30 AI soon. I have 200 - 375 Winchester brass and Hornady 30-30 AI dies. My personal feeling is that the barrels take up way less room that the full rifle and it is not too much bother swapping out the barrels. Just a side note, all my barrels are rimmed with the exception of the first rifle I got (223), just my personal preference.

I started my Handi life as a switcher, but like CW mentioned, I could not get consistent accuracy between barrel swaps.   So now my Handis are all dedicated and stay that way.

+1

Matter of fact, I got me 5 extra receivers layin around just a waiting for a barrel to be dedicated to!   ;D

i guess i'm gunna favta quote my own post..........my OP to this poll. 2nd sentence.
"dedicated ain't no more accurate or reliable than swap'n, if ya do it right ;)"
do ya think it mite have beena lack of that, or jus maybe ya throwed tha towel in too soon !!!!!!!!! :o
stating there not accurate is yall's experiance.
not to be taken seriously asa done deal with any or all.

it has been proove'n by many here, they can be made accurate if they ain't all ready ;)

we all know tha real main reason they might not be accurate....... poor or different fitting of each #1
