The old Polaris surprised me.
« on: May 21, 2012, 01:07:21 PM »
I own a 2000 Polaris Expedition and it's been sitting in the barn untouched for over two years. My shoulders got in such bad shape I couldn't ride it in '10 and I spent all of '11 and most of this year getting them fixed and working again. Last week I decided it was time to get it started because I needed to use it. Had prickly pear that need digging and mesquites that needed poisoning that got ahead of me in that time and the 4-wheeler makes the chores a lot easier.  I  replaced the battery because it was gone. I figuered I would have to drain the gas tank and possibly pull the carb and clean it. When I looked in the gas tank the gas was still clear and smelled like gas so I flipped the choke on and hit the starter. Darn thing cranked just like it had run the day before.

Lot of people cuss Polaris but I've never had a minutes trouble with this one. My wife rode a '96 Sport for several years and all I ever did to it was replace one drive belt.

I have had nine Polaris's over the years and still have two not because they didn't last but because I had more money than brains at the time and I also had one Honda that was a good machine and a Arctic cat 300 that was the biggest cold blooded whore I ever had, if it even got close to water it would fart spuder or just die but anyway the only wheeler I will buy is a Polaris.

2001 sportsman 500 H.O.-not any problems, smooth ride, much power. If you use ethanol gas,cut off the fuel valve & let carb bowl MT out before letting it sit will help the carb issues.

Personally I would still drain the tank and add it to a filled tank of your car/ truck.

Throw 2oz per gal of Seafoam in with fresh gas. It's excellent preventative!

I like my Polaris allot! Good luck with yours! I have a 2000 trail boss and a 2007 Sportsman 700.

I've already burned the old gas and refilled with fresh. Unfortunately the fresh gas has ethanol in it. I've always been able to avoid it until the last hold out here quit holding out and the "contains ethanol" stickers appeared on their pumps in January. I'll have to add Seafoam or Stabil this winter.

I really like the smooth ride of the Polaris 4x4 wheelers. I test rode a lot of different brands before settling on Polaris and it hasn't disappointed me in the least.

I have a sportsman 500HO and a sportsman 400 and I use to have a 02 Ranger 500 that I put snow tracks on in the winter and that sucker would go through ten foot snow drifts like nothing it wasn't fast with the tracks on it but it was like a snow cat nothing stopped it, snow mobiles would have to turn around some of the places I went.
