Barrel Accessory Program with Bare SB2 Receivers
« on: May 22, 2012, 10:37:01 AM »
Saw some folks in the sellin' section with complete SB2 receivers for sale.  Is H&R going to have issue with me shipping one of these to them to fit extra "barrel accessory program" barrels to this action without a foreend/buttstock?  Or does that need to be installed prior to them receiving it?

Any way to know if the SB2 receiver started life as a 10ga/12gaUSH or if it started life as a rifle?

Thanks,
jkpq45

Welcome! Best way to find out what barrels they'll fit is to call H&R and ask, they can tell by the serial number what's been fitted to it previously. SB2 shotgun frames have large firing pins and the side walls are thinner than rifle frames.

Yes you can send a bare deceiver to the factory for barrel fitting. I have done this twice with 2 receivers. I do drop mine off at the front door I live in the neighbor hood .

I just sent the receiver only in a small USPS box and everything went fine.  ;D

+1 I haven't sent a stock set in with a frame for years, I just send a frame in a small flat rate box, costs less than $10 shipped w/insurance, but I always order a stock set at the same time since all my H&R barrels have their own  frames.  8)

I do the same thing that Tim does when ordering barrels.  I normally just send the frame.  In the past, I had two issues that involved accuracy and a pop-open and Brian asked me to send the whole rifle.  Both times the rifles came back quickly, problem resolved, perfectly fit and looking better than new.  I have never, in my 71 years, ever dealt with a business large or small that was more customer friendly than H&R.  It's for that reason, I'll never own another brand break action rifle.  I doubt other manufacturers can match H&R's performance.

May be opening a can of worms--but is it OK to ship receivers to H&R using USPS?  Or, does it need to go through UPS?

Also, will the firearm need to be transferred back to you through an FFL Type I, or can it come to your door?

Here's some copypasta I found regarding shipping long guns via USPS--my memory failed on me previously, I was CORRECTLY remembering that handguns via USPS is a no-no; but misremembered re: long guns (short answer: A-OK!)

"432.1 General

D. Unloaded rifles and shotguns may be mailed if the mailer fully complies with the Gun Control Act of 1968 (Public Law 90—618) and
18 U.S.C. 921. "

All you have to do is follow the instructions on the Accessory Barrel web page and the order forum, since there's no transfer of ownership, the FFL rules don't apply.
