It's fascinating that you think someone said that. Can you tell me where you read that? I can remember several people questioning your sky is falling ideological diatribes, but I don't remember anyone ever claiming that it was impossible for any American to ever be killed in an act of terrorism. Please give me some names and maybe even some posts if you would.

dukkillr, I think powderman's point is that there are some GBO members who do not think Islam is a threat to non-Muslim peoples. In that context, I agree with his point. There are some GBO posters who support the activities of militant Muslims, usually through deflections, distortions and obfuscations. Beyond that statement, I invoke that Miranda thingy.

What Matt, among others, corrrectly said, is that the threat is statistically insignificant. People face an infinite number of slight threats. People can be killed by stingrays or fall in the shower or die of a peanut allergy. Matt, among others, pointed out that several of those things kill more Non-combatant Americans every year than Muslim terrorism. No one said it was NO threat, the word you used. If you are right, your arguments should be able to survive without putting words in other people's mouths. So if you find the need to keep redefining what others are saying, perhaps you should look at why you feel the need to do that...

Right. It is significant to the families of the 150 or so people who are killed each year by peanut allergies. But it is, STATISTICALLY INSIGNIFICANT (the words I actually used, again, please don't tell others what they are saying, the words are right there for you see) to the rest of us. We are many hundred times more likely to be killed in a car accident or by any number of other things. It is simply a fact.

The point that Matt, myself, and others have attempted to explain to you is that the chances of being killed by a terrorist is extremely low, particularly when compared to the amount of worry you love to generate on the topic. It is not, nor has it ever been, that the few terrorist attacks on American civilians are a good thing or that we should not be saddened or mourn their loss. Nor is anyone saying the chance of being killed by an islamic terrorist is perfectly 0%. Literally no one here has ever said that. But these attacks and fatalities should be viewed in the context of their statistical significance. If you don't like what those numbers say, you should think about why...

It might be good to examine why we have such a small threat personaly . Could it be we are an armed population ? could it be our legal system ? or the fact we took prisoners ?
I do see both points of view the threat though small is real. The other side those of us not in direct contact of a threat or dammage from one still needs to support those who are/were . IMHO ! And being complacent could lead to more deadly attacks in the future that involve more of us. NEVER underestimate your enemy or you will pay a high price.

Fascinating debate on semantics!

Much the same sort of thing happened in another thread, where a poster insisted that a witness in Martin - Zimmerman case had changed their story to indicate that the it was martin calling for help. I pointed out that that was NOT what the witness changed their story too. So did another poster. After several exchanges on the matter our posts were deleted. My point being, different perceptions exist....but there are some who don't like that fact.
