I Didn't Like My Back Garden
« on: May 24, 2012, 03:58:50 PM »
I just wasn't happy with the way it was, so i decided to "narrow" it up a bit,

I wanted it "raised up" and "pointed", as tilling it will flattening it to where i want it to be,

So, with that done, i crawled up on top of the pile with my small tractor/Howard Rotovator,

And here it is, much narrower and ready to plant!

And i even managed to get 7 pails of flower bulbs planted in it...

I had to clear the tree's and brush you see behind the garden, as it all came out waaay past the garden spot in the pict..  I also had to dig a ditch around the whole area, to redirect the water away/around the garden as it was too wet and swampy in that area...

It also was a low spot where the garden is, and i built it up to what it is today... all compost and now stone free!

I Didn't Like My Back Garden Update
« Reply #3 on: June 28, 2012, 01:25:34 PM »
I thought i'd post a couple picts. of what my "back garden" looks like today.

Once i had it "reshaped", i planted it and mulched it in heavy!

And everything is growing extremely well!

This garden is mainly for watermellons, squash, tomatoes and flowers, but i do have a few other things planted in it too...

Thank you very mulch!  lol lol

Loader tractor is an Agco 5660 with ALO 310 loader, both have been GREAT...

I use mix grass hay cut off the fields (food plots) you see in the back ground of the picts...  I put the mulch on THICK while it's green, i don't want anything growing through it, so you have to make sure you can't see the ground through it, AFTER it dries out.

i like agco stuff but as of now my main tractor is a old david brown 880.and my loader is a 500a ford backhoe. i cant fault either of them.ive been useing wheat straw and grass hay for mulch.it has really cut down on the weeding and tilling which ive been totally sik of.and since we in a drouth here in MO it helps hold the moisture in.hope yu getting more rain than i am!

Ford made some good equipment, glad your's is still working for you!

We have had enough rain up until the last couple weeks or so, but total rainfall is down a little the last couple months.  As for me, i have spring fed ponds, so watering isn't a problem for me, i just feel bad for those that don't have the water to use.

As i said, i have spring fed ponds and because i'm too lazy to carry water in buckets, i take a small sump pump, hook a garden hose to it, putting it into a bucket,

and throw it into the shallow end of the pond,

and viola, i have all the water i could ever use and then some!
