I agree with Meghan  -  unless you are an extreme right wing republican , they no longer want you in their tent. Even Ronald Reagan would be drummed out by today's party. The republican party has been hijacked by extremists and extremist policies. Rather than trying to expand their tent to be inclusive instead they alienate with extremist views and concentrate on being exclusive, Now they are bound and determined on eating their own. They have lost the true meaning of conservatism and replaced it with radicalism.

Not our fathers Republican Party anymore. Unfortunately it will be their demise.

Meghan McCain claimed that many Republicans treat her like "a freak" and "a mutant" while speaking on MSNBC on Thursday. She spoke out about the backlash during a segment about ideological divisions within the GOP. McCain said that many people do not consider her a true conservative because she departs from the party on issues likeGay Marriage.
"I'm a proud moderate Republican, but using the word 'moderate' in the Republican party today is considered a dirty word," she said. "Many people in the Republican party treat me like I'm a freak, like there's something wrong with me and that I'm a mutant from the original design."
When pressed on being treated like "a freak," she joked, "I work for this network for a reason." She added that "if you're not an extreme right-wing conservative... you're given no respect."
Later, McCain reflected on what she perceived as the shift to extremism in the GOP, and called out two prominent conservative bloggers. “I wish I knew more where it came from I don’t understand the popularity of Michelle Malkin and Andrew Breitbart and people who exacerbate people's fears."
She also had a clear message to her critics. She noted that some members of the GOP may reject her, "but I always stand here and say you can’t actually kick me out of the Republican Party.”

Instead of letting God be the judge and focusing on fiscal conservatism many Republicans would rather focus on their own version of big government. Gay marriage will be the least of our worries when this country goes under due to extreme spending from both sides of the aisle.

she sounds more libertarian than Republican. I consider myself libertarian although I disagree with their "throw the borders wide open" stance.

My view point have always been fiscally conservative , and lean more liberal on social.  For years I had aligned myself with republican party, but I too believe the party has been hijacked by FAAAAR right extremists views.

My father was republican, my mother a Reagan democrat.

I have since also aligned myself with RP because his true conservative and libertarian beliefs align best with my core beliefs . Does that mean I agree with everything he endorses ... no . But he is a far Cry better than what these  extremists are certainly peddling. And yes their are extremists on both sides of the isle. However , I do agree with where Meghan is coming from.  The republican party of old is gone , they have moved into an era of 100% align OR leave.

They have forgotten :
The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally — not a 20 percent traitor. -  Ronald Reagan

Funny ain't it? What is called far right extremism now was middle of the road 50 years ago! ::)

While at the same time, if JFK were alive today and gave his "Ask not" speech, the liberals would hang him! :o

We don't usually agree, but you hit the nail on the head with that one.   Funny how a conservative is almost always referred to as a "far right wing radical".

I view both Meghan McCain and MSNBC as irrelevant.

If I remember correctly, Meghan McCain recently said that if her father had been elected president "all our troops would still be in Iraq and Afganistan."  That's far right radicalism at its worst, in my opinion.

Yep, ALMOST, and ONLY 3 1/2 years later.  Funny how that appears to be happening just before an election.    ::)

"Almost" doesnt feed the bulldog. Go tell the 2 families in my area who just lost loved ones in Afghanistan that their sons "almost" came home alive. Tell my wife's cousin who's husband was killed in Iraq that he "almost" made it home alive. Obama is a liar, a fraud a failure and a war monger just like the guy he replaced.

We are not playing horse shoes. "almost" doesnt count.

Well said lakota, that blood is on Obama's hands. The same clown who campaigned as an "anti-war" candidate.

Funny how far right radicalism trys to pass for conservatism....compared to recent  GOPers Reagen, Nixon, Ford, etc. todays so-called conservatives would kick those guys out of the party. Not to fear though,  Romney will be much like Obama and corparatism (what is called 'socialism' under BHO) will continue.  "Divide and Rule" paradigms will explode.

If memory serves (I was 17 at the time ) Reagan wasn't exactly embraced by the party either before being nominated by the voters. The party was fast to sing his praises no doubt, but I don't believe he was tapped to take over.

Re: bringing the troops home. I suggest you guys see the OFFICIAL table on page 8 here and then tell me Obama hasn't brought most of them home:
http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/natsec/R40682.pdf

"Boots on the ground": Bush = 187,900; Obama = 67,500.  Put another Republican in the Oval Office and see the figure at 250,000 or more.

Yep 2/3rds of US troop deaths in Afghanistan happened during our lord and saviour Barack Hussein Obama's presidency. Also troop deaths increased 500% under His Excellency's rule. Even more people "almost" made it home alive under Obama than under Bush. Now thats something to brag about.

I didn't know your admiration of Obama was on the level of worship.  That's a mite much, I think.
PS: The article you quoted is almost a year old.  Even so, there's 120,000 families mighty glad Obama brought their soldier or sailor home.  I suspect they'll vote their gladness, too.
