NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Newly released court documents suggest that an accused serial killer in Southern Indiana got a tattoo to remember one of his victims. The information was found in audio recordings from William Clyde Gibson's court appearance in Floyd County last month.

The recordings had been sealed until now. It comes from a probable cause hearing on the day Gibson was charged with two murders. Police say the tattoo on his arm marks the date Gibson killed his first victim, Karen Hodella, on Oct. 10, 2002 his 45th birthday.

Hodella, a Florida hairdresser, went missing in Oct. 2002 and her body was found in Clarksville near the Ohio River a few months later.

Gibson also faces capital murder charges for the death of two other women, Christine Whitis and Stephanie Kirk. This week prosecutor Keith Henderson said Gibson sexually abused both women. Whitis was allegedly strangled and sources say that Kirk was too.

Kris Steele, a bartender, says he served Gibson at Jersey's Bar in Clarksville, for about two months before his April arrest. On April 19, police say they found him in the stolen car of Whitis, whose body was later found in Gibson's garage.

"He'd sit there for awhile, drink a couple beers, and wander around," said Steele. Sometimes he'd be in like two to three times a day...He never had any problems talking to women. From what I understand, he had a little bit of success."

Employees and customers of at least six bars in Southern Indiana have told WHAS11 that he was a regular customer. Steele says he even has a friend who went out with Gibson and came home to tell about it.

"She said he never tried anything out of the ordinary, was pretty much shocked about [the allegations] too."

Police have searched four other areas for human remains that we know about. Police have said they currently have no credible evidence that there are more victims but haven't ruled it out.

Indiana's sex offender registry says Gibson has numerous tattoos but does not mention the tattoo of the date Karen Hodella was killed.
Gibson will be in court again the week of May 28.
