need load, powder, primer, bullet please
« on: May 27, 2012, 01:29:36 AM »
Still trying to make a Hornet barrel work on an SB1.  Can you give me a load that is mild enough for the SB1 but still has worthwhile speed to outdo a .22 mag.    I am already using lil' Gun..but still get flattened, sometimes perforated primers.

Change to small rifle primers that have thicker cups, CCI450, BR4 or Rem 7½, but be sure to use start loads and work up again, I do .2gr increments on the Hornet.  ;)

Quick, how do federal small rifle primers compare to those you listed? I am using them in 357 mag and max on a sb1. should i try the other brands? Tried Win small pistol mag primers, and got pierced pimers!

See the Calhoon link I posted, it's a good reference for primer comparisons.

I am using 34gr HP from Midway (Dogtown) and 11 gr of IMR 4227,  small RIFLE primers, good accuracy, NO pressure signs, no problems.

I use the Rem 6 1/2 primers with a full case of Lilgun in a old cast iron M158. Just about as perfect as I can get. Kurt
