45-70 and barnes tsx 250 grain
« on: May 27, 2012, 04:44:10 PM »
I was looking through the 45-70 load book and noticed some smokin fast loads with the barnes 250 tsx. Have any of you guys tried this bullet through your handis? Seems like it would make a wicked whitetail round.

I would think so jason, barnes has the top end marlin load listed at 2600fps with aa1680. I just wish barnes werent so expensive, 1 dollar per bullet makes for some expensive load development

IIRC, Barnes lists Ruger #1 data for that bullet at over 2,800 FPS, but I think their pressure standard is 55K PSI. :o

63 grains of AA1680 under a 250 grain 45 cal rifle bullet.  That's almost as much 1680 as some of the Maxi Fanatics are using. :o  (Just kiddin' of course on the Maxi data ;) )

Is 1680 a ball or extruded powder?

Is 1680 a ball or extruded powder?

Below copied from Accurate's website

Accurate 1680 is an extremely fast burning, double-base, spherical rifle powder that is well suited for large capacity, high performance handgun cartridges such as the 454 Casull, 460 S&W and 500 S&W. 1680 is also an excellent choice for the 22 Hornet and 7.62 x 39, as well as other low capacity rifle cartridges. Made in the USA
