I shot my 20".375 Howa today.  Has one of those rubber coated synthetic kryptonite titanium stocks. No cracks at the wrist ......yet.

She belched smoke and fire and I almost went blind!   Then I shot it some more.  I think it was 235 grain bullets at 2800 FPS or so.  A pleasant load to shoot.  My best groups around 1 1/4 give or take a bit.

My impact always shifts from shooting during hunting season to summer shooting, the difference is 60 degrees.

Use warne maxima steel base and rings they will not let your scope move even if you were using a 458 mag. Cheers Allan.

Hmmm something is amiss it seems as you stated earlier that your using 4 rings on your Leupold scope and now your saying it moved...........  :o .

If it was me I would be looking seriously at the set up as something is not right. None of my rilfes uses more than the normal compliment of two rings and even on the .458 Win Mag the scope remains where it was put in the first place..

i used the factory one piece picitiny rail

these are cheap ...[NCstar rings]...but how week can 4 be??
2 of these rings  have worked  on other guns just fine

knowing these were a poor choice  and  4 of them fit   just fine
only  half  inch   of movement  but  is just where i wanted it placed

One has to wonder how well those rings are matched?

I mean how well all the sizes and faces match?

I wonder just how accurately they were made.

Some "Better" Rings would be a good idea to try IMHO. See if the problem is solved or not.

The 375 Ruger is a great round, I intend to get one, but on the backburner for now. As far as barrel length is concerned, there is a good difference in velocity with this one, but what matters most is the way you use it, if the shorter barrel gives the velocity you require for your hunting, then it offers some handling advantages & the 20" fills that bill. Alot of American hunters like this round for Bear & Moose & usually don't shoot these way off & use other rounds for longer range Elk & such.

For me personally I am thinking about the longer Howa. Here are some good reports of what to expect from the round vs the 375H&H & a good writeup.

I love the 375 Ruger.  I read all the articles and threads on how it wasn't going to last and how it didn't have the grand ol' history of the H&H.   But here we are on yet another long thread with folks chiming in over and over with rave reviews on the 375 Ruger.

The thing I like most about the 375 Ruger is that it puts a whole lot of whoop-ass into a regular ol' package. Everything about it is just, well, regular.  The size of the rifle is no bigger than a deer hunter's 30-06.  There's not a whole lot of crazy pressures or fine tuned barrel lengths or elite velocities. It doesn't need premium bullets (unless what you're hunting is trying to kill you) to absolutely flatten the fxck out of what you're shooting.  Hell, even the recoil just feels like a bigger version of the 30-06.  I scored my lefty ss/lam Alaskan Hawkeye for $693.00 NIB. I slapped a Vortex Viper 2x7x32 on it, and based upon the success of the H&H, I'm comfortable that I can hunt anything in the world with it.  Maybe what I am saying is that it is the big bore version of a working man's rifle. I love it.   It ain't pretentious, it just works.

In July, I killed two nilgai with my 375 Ruger.  I used a 300gr Sierra Game King loaded to about 2450 fps with 71.5gr Reloader 15.  Ranges were 80 and 150yds.  One ran 50yds, the other just flopped over.  Believe it or not I've actually had a few people gripe that why even mess with the 375 Ruger if you're not going to load it faster than the H&H.  Why? Because it (censored word) plowed through both of them and knocked them on their asses, AND my shoulder didn't take a beating for it. Nilgai is damn tasty by the way.  When sighting in my rifle for the hunt, I initially used Hornady factory ammo.  My rifle doesn't like the 300gr RNSP load, but once I switched to my handloads it dropped them in on top of one another over and over.

Not that the 375 H&H couldn't also do these same things, but I personally am not aware of a factory made 375 H&H that weighs less than 9lbs scoped that wouldn't cost several hundred bucks more to acquire.   I don't think anyone is saying the Ruger should replace the H&H by any means, and it certainly won't, but Ruger and Hornady hit a home run on this one.  It's a great combination and more and more people are realizing it.

I too am considering an Alaskan 20" version, but I would put it in a regular Ruger synthetic stock (like is on their Hawkeye SS  338 Federal I gave my SIL) I would use it like BigSwede does; a regular 250-270 bullet around 2600 and if I wanted speed, I'd use the Barnes 235 TSX as fast as I could push it. I dearly love my Mod 700 Classic reamed to 35 Whelen Improved, but I "have" had the little ejector plunger get stuck a time or two and have a case not eject ( I am super anal about reliability, even though I've never had to shoot anything twice with it, I "might want to", ha) so the CRF aspect always appealed to me. I've had two heavyweight .375 H&Hs (Winchester/Whitworth) and they are the pits for Utah hunting,ha. I've also had two of the older Remington 700 BDL SS in H&H and they are a joy to hunt with (and an elk thumper!) I went to other rifles and now they are pricey, and still push feed.
I like the handiness of the 20" Hawkeye, and for hogs/elk,(and Texas exotics, especially Nilgai)) shots under my self imposed 300yd limit it will work for me. Plus, if I ever did get to Alaska (it could happen!ha) I like having the Hornady factory ammo available.
I've shot enough game with 33 to 375 calibers ('06 case to full length mags) to really be impressed with medium calibers/heavy bullets (or lighter Barnes X) I like the big holes they make! Love my Whelen AI, but I can find a place in my heart for a stubby Ruger!

I shot a small cow elk around 200yds with the 375 H&H/Sierra 300BT once and it made a 6" exit hole, bloodshot alot of meat. Was wondering if the Nosler 260 Accubond around 2700 would be tougher? Is there any real gain over a Hornady 270 SP? Opinions?
