Can u only fit shotgun barrels to the newer huntsman frames or can a 357 or 44 magnum barrel be used on a huntsman frame? Or maybe even a 22 hornet.

Unless they've changed their policy, the only way you can get barrels other than 50 cal ML barrels fitted to a Huntsman frame is for you need to provide a copy of the original 4473. They will fit 357 and 44 mag barrels to SB1 frames made 1987 and later. If I were you, I'd call CS and ask for Lisa, or PM Brian56 for more info.

CW, you are correct, if the Huntsman has been registered with form #4473 with the BATF.  What I was saying is that with out the #4473 form, we can only fit muzzle loader barrels to a Huntsman frame. The Huntsman is not a legal firearm unless it is registered with the BATF. So anyone sending in a Huntsman frame for other than muzzle loader barrels must also send a copy of their BATF registration or we will refuse to install other barrels for legal reasons.

When they first came out I was standing in line to get one I had to do the ffl form and later on I called H&R about different barrels and they told me you cant put any center-fire on it and when the Side Kick came out I traded in my Huntsman because I liked the 5/8 breech plug and the sights better but if I knew I could have put a 44mag or shotgun barrel on it I would have kept it.  >:(

H&R didn't start putting 357 and 44 mag barrels on SB1 frames until 2008-2009.

I guess I should have been clearer not the real old ones but the 7/8 threaded breech plug model.

Well I have a 20 ga barrel for it that I got out of the parts barrel at local pawnshop for $15 and it works fine. I was curious as to whether any other barrels could be fitted to it even though i probably won't. As cheap as you can get a whole rifle used ($200) versus an Encore barrel , I'll probably just get whole rifles and not worry about changing out barrels. Especially since I have a 35 whelen coming in.

That works for fitting yourself, 357 & 44mags, Hornet, 30-30, 45-70 (Trapdoor level) should all work barring primer issued with the Hornet anyway. You're right on complete shotguns, I can get brand new Pardners for $127 and tax locally.
