Its O-Fish-all
« on: May 31, 2012, 02:55:48 PM »
Now the proud owner of a 357 MAX , just finished up with the reamer about 1/2 hour ago , gave the barrel a good cleaning to make sure all the little chips were gone , now to pull the iron sights and add a scope ( old eyes )  :'(

Have got some ammo loaded too , everything from 110g Rem HP's to 240 DE'ed Bore Riders , thanks to our buddy BikerBeans , most are loaded with Win 296 and Rem 7 1/2 BR small rifle primers , saw on one site were a guy had good luck with the 110's as long as he kept them below 3000 fps , we shall see .  ??? ???

Thanks to all you guys that said that I HAD to have one !!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just need to remember were I put my extra scope mounts ( CRS Again ) and I'll add one of those butt ammo carriers , drop a couple 38's in there along with some mag and max ammo , the best of all worlds .

Thanks ironglow , that reminded me to check the Batt. in the chrony , it was getting weak last time it was out and throwing odd readings . Hope to have a range report sometime this weekend if the rain clears out .

Stimpy, my shorty maxi and my .32-20 are my grab it guns by the back doors.  The they both wear the Allen 9 cartridge butt stock holder.  The maxi has 3 of each .38s, mags and maxi's with a maxi in the chamber.  You're gonna love it.  They're a fun rifle.  I hope you enjoy yours as much as Patty and I do ours.

I have not tried any 110 grain bullets in mine, but have shot 125 grain bullets. I got decent accuracy as long as I kept them under 2400 fps. Above that, accuracy went out the window. I was using Remington hollow points (real thin jackets) with the intent of a varmint round, I gave up on the idea. I can push 180 grain bullets at 2200 fps with good accuracy, so they will do for any varmints.

  BB asks;
" Is it possible to be a Handiholic w/o a 30-30 or 357 Maxi in the stable?"
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

I have to admit..I have a red face.  I don't have either of those calibers, but I may try to correct that soon.  Do the 38 spls and the .357s also shoot good in the Maxi..or are they a compromise, in the accuracy dept ?

From all that I have read accurary improves for the 38's & 357 mag's , this seems counter to normal thinking with the jump to the lands being increased , but it works , or atleast we shall see .  :o

PS ---  Now I have both the 30/30 and the 357 Max  ;)

The accuracy of mine improved with 38 Specials and 357 Magnums. It is against conventional wisdom. I think it has to do with reshaping the throat when you ream it out.

i reamed  mine too
not had time to load ammo yet!....[work issues, rough earning a living]

i did have time to shoot just a few 38s and mags since reaming
at 60 yards it still seems to shoot good......just plinking some cans...all hit center

When you come back with the range report saying how much you love the max, then we will show you the secret hand shake. Glad you joined up and hope to see you add some load info for the max. Always like your post.

Sorry to say it, but I don't have a 30-30 "YET" :-[

I was wondering from the title how you can fish with a Handi!  (maybe you just shoot the fish)  Ha ha.  Sounds like you will really enjoy that Max.  All you max owners make it sound like they are as much fun as my little .45 colt carbine.  Maybe....   :)  44 Man

You are going to love it.  I have 2 now and they both shoot 38, mag, and max very well.  Just did another ream for my Bros kids to use this deer season.

I too own a max now. Fit the barrel to the frame and took it out yesterday. Grouped just a hair outside of an inch at 75 yards with a garbage tasco scope that is blurry at all magnifications and deformed 180 ssp bullets( i was aware that would happen just wanted to test fire). The load was just something i threw together for test firing. Just ordered some new glass for her and gonna rip the seating die apart to drill out the stem. cant wait to do some load development!
