Surplus Militray Guns finally running out???
« on: June 02, 2012, 07:05:46 PM »
I been hearing rumors that the mosins are finally starting to run out along with the yugo sks's too.  We have bits and pieces left of the yugo mausers in 8mm.  Now with the older collectors parting with there stuff it could keep us going into the future.  The only problem will be the cost.
Even if you have 1 gun or many you will be happy to have what you have someday soon.

Truer words were never spoken!  The fine Swedish M96 and M38 carbines are now very hard to find at reasonable prices. When I was interested in Swiss K31's about 5 years ago all of the various internet surplus gun dealers had many rifles available in the $200 to $250 price range, matching parts and troop tags.  I checked a couple of weeks ago and the only ones I could find had cracked stocks and were over $300.  Gun broker prices when I checked were generally $350+.  Not surprising as only something like 550,000 of K31's were ever built.  The CMP is out of both 1903 Springfields and 1917's.  They claim no more are coming in, ever! The current prices that I have seen for Springfields are now $650 plus.
Except for a 1917 I was lucky to buy a few of each when I could.  Believe me I don't regret it one bit and my investments have appreciated very nicely as well as giving me a chance to shoot some of the worlds finest military weapons.  Hopefully I'll stumble on a good 1917 shooter some day soon.

Had to happen sometime. It's not like there's an unlimited number of warehouses out there with stacks of greasy WWII rifles waiting to be peddled.

We've enjoyed a window of opportunity that's quickly closing. Post-Korean War stores of milsurp rifles are mostly select-fire weapons that we'll probably never see on the civilian market.

They have been systematicly clamping down on milsurp imports for years.  The days of cheap old bolt guns are behind us.

:)  Howdy! I remember back in the late 1950's and early 1960's the Sears catalog had war surplus rifles for about $25.00. I got my Dad to order a 303 British Enfield sportirized. The rifling was only fair, but it turned out to be a great deer rifle. Always, Gene

they have been mostly gone for years. only a few to choose from.
guns I bought decades ago are now selling for small fortunes at gun shows! And I mean selling
not just being priced high. I was tempted to sell a few myself but I could not bring myself to do it.
91 Argentine Mauser $800.00 , Model 27 Finnish Nagant at $500.00 plus.  P-14 Enfield $500.00 Plus.
I don't think I paid over $50.00 for any of them! Pretty good return on investment it would be.

The prices are going up as we speak.  The return is better than Wall street  (stocks)  I wish I purchased more for the kids.
The prices on the sks's are starting to climb also. If we look at the antiue blackpowder stuff when the surplus military stuff dries up completely from the dealers and wholesalers the crying will really begin.  The cheap affordable prices will become a $1,000 for one purchase.  Just wait and see.

Back in the 50s, 60s I bought milsurps by the case, sometimes several cases, they were cheap and ypu could afford to butcher one once in a whle, thet were cheap at the time.  I went through and selected several nice guns, cleaned then and found a home for them in the safe.  Over the years I replaced stocks, altered bolts, installed scopes and further butchers many guns.  I still have a fair collection of orginal rifles left but I often think of the hundreds I turned into sporters, my son and all of my grandsons have a Swed built just for them, they have put many peices of game on the table.

I remember seeing stacks of the chinese norinco sks's,  russian sks's, the russian ak's and russian m44 mosins next to each other in my local GS.
The norinco sks's were marked $99,  the russian sks was marked $125,  russian ak's were $150 and the NIB russian m44 mosins were $99 also.
The last of the chinese norinco sks's i seen for sale were marked $125 towards the dryup.  The last 1440rd case of norc ammo was $125 (7,62x39) i got it, and the last half case of chinese 7,62x54r ammo was $99 i got that too.  Its all part of history now and the old days not to be repeated.
SS;  Who knows were the prices will go on all the stuff you mentioned?  To me your stuff is the more important military surplus history.

Ah the days of $99 sks's. Gun shows in new york (upstate) had them if I remember right at $99 for the pinned barrels and somewhat less for the pressed in ones. Stacks of them and some still in the origional crates. Think I paid about $110 for mine. Could triple that now. Still in great shape. Frank

The thing to remember is that well over 50 years ago most militaries went to weapons that we haven't been able to own since the early 30's

I feel lucky to have scored my L/E #4MkI and P14(Remington)  when I did.    Got them both in 1991.    Paid $69 for the #4 and $190 for the P14.     Also acquired three M1917 S&W revolvers that year.   Each were less than $125.   My local toy store had a M1917 in his display last month,   wanted $900 for it.    Guess I made a good investment.

maybe I better buy a couple spam cans of 7.62x54... and a couple more Mosins while they're still $99 for a nice one.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.
